Hello, I am new to DSMs. I have picked up a dsm that was sitting for a while about 11 years or so according to the previous seller. I ended up doing all of the typical maintenance like gaskets deals and timing components. However after hooking the battery back up and coming back to the car after a few days there are random clicking noises in the engine bay. I have searched all over the forums and I cannot seem to find out what is going on. It seemed to come from around the throttle body and around the drivers side. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Gotcha. I will take a video when I get home. It’s pretty intermittent and hard to time but I will see what I can do. Thanks for the quick response.

A vehicle profile would be helpful.
Does it click when the ignition is off?
Off the top of my head (and only being a 1g guy), things around the TB that could make an electrical click would be the ISC, EGR, or an injector. It would be pretty easy to disconnect the harness to those individually to see if the click goes away.
On the driver's side, you have several relays, fuel pressure solenoid, A/C clutch, injectors, and probably a few other things I'm forgetting.

91 Tsi FWD eagle talon. This clicking only happens when the car is off. The noise sounds like it would be coming from the ISC and one other place will send a vid when I get a chance this evening

The ECU rehomes the ISC (Idle Speed Control) which may sound like clicking or scratching from around the throttle body on power up.

It shouldn't be making any noise when it's off (after a few seconds, the ECU has a shutdown timer). Perhaps it isn't really turning off, that's happened before.

So it was coming from the ISC. I was having idle issues as well, and when I checked resistances on the pins it turns out that one of the coils were bad. I believe that it was stuck open and during what you were describing trying to reset itself or something. Thanks for the help

Next step after replacing the ISC with a black plastic version is to check the ECU to make sure the ISC driver for that coil isn't blown up and to make sure that the capacitors in the ECU haven't leaked and damaged the circuit board. For that mater that the ECU hasn't been replaced with a low quality remanufactured unit. Sadly there are many out there.

Is there a video or a vfaq link you could send me on that?
