Rally Armor mud flaps

I was looking to get a set of Rally Armor mudflaps and was reading the post where the mud flaps for the Evo were used, but others used the universal ones.. So which one should I get?

I have not owned the "Rally Armor" ones, but another brand (much cheaper) that made them for the EVO. The shape is correct, but I had to drill some of my own holes based on available areas to mount them on a DSM. The install came out clean and they are quite functional on my car.

I have rally armor universals I bought about a year ago hoping if I installed it will save my paint but once I lined it up to where it should be it hated the look. Might of been because of the offset of my wheels

have you ever considered finding a pair of OEM mud flaps and restoring them??? Worked great on my car and Look amazing.....

I had the basics and they're junk, but OK for the back. The classics are just thicker versions of the basics. In fact, you could probably glue two sets of basics together and get the same result. I just saw a set of brand new evo classics for $50 on eBay (same as your second link). The urs are the best. They're rubber and will not warp bend tear or break. They're glossy but fade to matte after a couple months. I lucked out and got a set of new front urs for a wrx for $20 on eBay and they fit great. Just had to drill one hole in the flap for the top screw and a small hole in the inner sideskirt cap to affix a zip screw and washer to hold the flap flush to the body. Now I just have to find a set of rear urs to replace the basics.
Don't buy new whatever you do. Its a waste, especially since they're not custom fit. Look for universal fit or evo flaps. As I said the wrx flaps fur the front, but the rears are too small.
If you have wider than stock wheels I suggest them.
Also, the evo flaps in that thread are classics, not urs. They will warp over time, and if you're using them in snow you must also attach them on the inside or they will curl.
One more thing. Assuming you have sideskirts, put a rubber washer behind the flap on the top front screws so the flap isn't bent.

20bucks Amazon. All black universal. I added the red paint.
Drill your own holes.
Seriously this is a DSM page not a honda page if you ain't modding; your in the wrong game.
And OEM ones don't look as good and cost as much as a human life.

I use the universal rally armor on mine and work good for me. Made a bracket for it. Cheap and looks good

I'm not sure what thread you read that used the Evo one's but if it was mine, they were purchased from a friend that was selling his Evo and trying to move the parts he had on it which included a set of Evo specific RA flaps. I bought them for cheap and it was worth it (at the time) because nobody that I knew of had tried fitting RA flaps to a 2g before.

That being said, buying the universal flaps is a lot better investment than the Evo's simply because of the cost. The Evo flaps don't "bolt-on" and still require you to get creative with the way you mount them, which is still required of the basic universals but you'll spend $80 less.

Miliman, did you realize they made those universal basics with red logos for the same price? Also, it seems like your wheels still stick out past the flaps. Doesnt that defeat the purpose?
And gofer, I briefly read your thread awhile back before I purchased mine (excellent tutorial BTW) but if I may add one thing: if you plan on using these in colder environments, I highly recommend mounting one more screw into the wheel well part of the flap or they will bend. Unfortunately this means drilling a small hole in the splash shield. Also, gofer, didn't you say that your evo flaps were hard plastic? Correct me if I'm wrong. Those would be R/A classics . The UR are rubber and highly flexible, and say "UR", and "flap" at high speeds. The classics were OEM for evo 8/9, as the URs are relatively new.
Either way I agree with the consensus of getting universal fit, especially if buying new.

Fair enough. I don't think a lot of dsmers in the north understand the necessity of mud flaps if they're driving on salted roads. Not only does it save the paint, but also the trunk panels up inside the bumper, which many people fail to clean the salt off, then wonder why there's water in the trunk from rust holes.
What do you guys do about the front top screw with r/a flaps? It drives me nuts since the flap can't sit flush all the way up because of the sideskirt. A rubber washer helps flatten it out but then it leaves a gap.

Hence the reason they're only $16. In all fairness, r/a basically says they're crap if you read the description, and says they're not recommended for temperate environments. Mine started to curl after a couple months when it started getting cold. However, they still serve their purpose.

I just got some brand new wrx ur rears off eBay for $20. Fit pretty good. Now they match the fronts. Also on eBay for $20.

I bought the RA EVO 9 flaps and they are TITS, they are reinforced plastic not rubber! Well Worth the money for keeping that Colorado Ice Buildup off the skirts and bumper! Yes I had to use a dremal, Yes It took an hour of my day, and Yes It was totally worth it!

I don't like the look of those rally armor ones, I only want them for the winter, if I can find oem eclipse mud flaps I would definitely use those year round.

You nailed it. This is one problem i've had since i bought my DSM that i've just put on the back burner. Now i have big ole rust holes and want to stop water getting in so im looking to cover it and get some mud flaps for good measure. I was doubtful i'd find an informative thread about mud flaps but i guessed wrong. This website has EVERYTHING discussed in it. Never a disappointment. Thanks guys.

Personally, I'd never spend more than 50$ (if that) on a piece of rubber that will see abuse all it's life. After all, all you're buying is a piece of rubber/plastic with a brand. Granted some are made to fit, but that's a P&P tax. If you are a DIYer, no need for that; it's easy to make anything fit right in the wheel well. Bought mine from a Mitsubishi trucks a long time ago, good long term usage since they are made for trucks. They say Mitsubishi on them AND 15$ for the set of 4 . Money is better spent elsewhere (mods/maintenance/insurance/tires).

Get the evo ones. Ive seen the universal ones bend with time. My 9s have been holding up for the past 3 years.
