Raising alt. voltage

yes it could work for us, but why would you want to do it? I'm assuming your trying to get higher voltage to a stereo amp? If so theres a better way to do it, because if you raise the voltage too much you'll fry out the electronics on the car that are meant for 12v.

yes a good altenator puts out 14.7V but the systems on the car are all classified as 12V. if say he was trying to run a stereo amp at 24V which is common and he just upped the whole system to that he'd fry his ecu and just about every electronic on the car.

just have your alt rebuilt is it volts you want or do you want to up the amp's stock is only about 75 amps max i am gonna have my alt rebuilt to put out 120-150 amps

No reason in particular, other than just better voltage at night so when you flip the headlights on along with the heater the car doenst want to die and the dash lights dont go dim.

You need more amps not volts, try using a bigger wire from the altenator to the battery , if that doesnt work get a optima red top battery =P. Volts is the speed of the current, Amps is the amount going through. Just a little highschool eletronics for you LOL.

yeah a better battery and a high output alt is what you rly need amps is you problem.. but dnt get optiuma i dont care for them i personally have killed one. i bought an odyssey battery and i wont buy any other battery again i love it read up on them, mine cost me $220. but if you are running lots of stuff like subs and spal radiator fans and anything else its well worth it plus get your alt rebuilt to put out more amps i know a place local to me i can send you there info if you cant find a place near you, just pm me

Cool thanks guys. I havnt driven my Talon in so long I cant remember if this one dims but a couple of my other ones did. I just came across the article while looking at WRX stuff. At the very least there is some good info in the thread that others can search for.

if you do get it rebuilt do it right. i took the altenator in my z from 70 amps (way too small) to over 200 amps by double winding the stator, putting bigger diodes in and just a regular rebuild otherwise.
