hi all i have searched and i have found only few posts talking about my problem

my fans (BOTH) kick in only when the temp level is above the temp signal on the stock 2g gauge

it just happen recently i dont know why ? before they used to kick in early , the tempreture now is MILLION DEGREES in dubai with 89% humidity and im afraid i will just destroy the car

once they kick in the temp will go back to normal and then again it will heat up until the fans kicks in

could it be my coolant sensor ? or the reading tempreture sensor on the thermostat housing reading wrong? how can i make sure ?

thanks for your help

i checked my sensor and its fine because once i put the ac on the car does not heat up and the fans kicks in on time:confused::confused: why only when the ac is off the car has to heat up before the fans kick in??/

guess please i need help in here it really does not make sense ????

Your fans automatically kick on when you turn the A/C on. Otherwise, the coolant temp sensor has to tell them to turn on. If it's broken, you ecu won't think it's warm enough to kick them on. Do you have a logger?

You coolant temp gauge and the coolant temp sensor the goes to the ecu and controls the fans are different. One of those double redundancy things for safety.

here is a picture of where and when my fans kicks in .... is this normal?? before it was only in the middle

i unplugged the coolant temp senosr and my fans were on all the time but there was a cel. and my tempreture were in the middle

now i connect it again and the fans are only kicking in only when the temp reachs this degree , please see picture.

im running straight water , i know its bad but here with the soaring heat and humidity only straight water will do. once the winter comes i will put back coolant.

any help or comments why my fans kick on late ?? kicking on this degree on the temp gauge is not right:confused::confused:

You need a logger to tell you whether it's too hot. An actual number instead of a just a spot on your gauge is more accurate.

Around here, those temperature sensors are cheap and a very easy thing to just replace when you even think they might be broken. It's a easy first step when trouble shooting.

And you should run at least a little bit of coolant. It has additives in it that lubricate the water pump and raise the boiling point of the water.

i dont have a logger but lets say the tempreature is 230 F instead of the normal 210 would this affect anything? please help me on this

thx

i think i found my problem, i took a look today at my lower radiator hose and guess what? its was forming a shape of a baloon and inflated from the middle like its full of air. it has totally different shape now in the middle its like a baloon ...WTF

i just went to the mitsubishi spare parts and picked up a lower hose for 30 USDWTF. its not for eclipse it was for a galant as they dont have anything here for eclipse . it fits however now its hitting my intake pipe and my transmission linkage WTF . now there is no more overheating problem but this hose is touching my intake i am afraid it will melt:notgood:

also its hitting my lower intercooler pipes :ohdamn:

its flowing well but do you guys think that i should be fine with it hitting these things...

when i bought it the guy said it will fit but he did not mention anything about what iam facing :( i tried to adjust it , twist it but IN VAIN.

:notgood:

is your thermstat stuck? Thatll cause hoses to balloon. Air will compress before itll inflate a hose-cooling systems are generally low pressure (sub 20psi) Or it could be the hose is just old and bad.

also, do your fans work at both high and low speeds? the fans should be on high when the ac is on-when they come on, turn the ac on and see if they speed up.

well i thought the problem is fixed but its not :barf:

today my new lower radiator hose got busted ( it did not leak but i can see now the stiches inside it i mean one more day it wil burst???? as you all know the hose has two levels and i think one is gone.

i went today to mitsubishi and ordered new hose they said i need to wait 3 days for it and while i was there i bought a new thermostat and i installed it but still my problem is the same . my fans are kicking in late and then once they kick in the tempreture will be back to normal and my fans will be off????

wisemen please give me a hand here what else should i check ?? iam not pushing coolant and iam not loosing coolant and no oil in water or water in oil so its not my gasket why my fan is kicking in late?? the sensor is working otherwise the fans will not kick in right??

the only thing i would say if it was my situation would be, bad thermostat/clogged or restrictive cooling system/misreading gauge/old temp sensor/old relay/water pump not pushing water through the system good enough/i dont know if the 2g has the fan sensor that plugs to the radiator/ i dont think this will hurt nothing but it needs to be checked over

read over this site if you are unsure but it helps.

thanks ilco i have read through this before but i cant find a fix

my water pump is NEW i changed it when i changed my timming belt 10000 KM ago

new thermostat just yesterday i installed it :( my radiator is not clogged at all and its very clean i made a flush last month .

my fans are working low and high and as they are supposed to but LATE why ?? also before i forget new radiator cap is there also. the only thing left is the coolant tempreture sensor ??? could it be faulty ?? my car is starting just fine in the morning and my fans are kicking in but late ? could it be the sensor ??

it might be, i mean after so many years it gets coated with so many things and it could be taking to long to read since it might be old, which in what i thinking is giving a false fan turn on time, on a 1g there is 3, one on the radiator for telling the fan when to activate at a certain temp, one for the ecu, and one for the gauge, but im not fully sure for a 2g, ive only owned one 2g and it was a spyder 4g64. but im tryin to help LOL

yeah man i know about the 1g how they have 3 sensors :) and thanks for your help

i will try today to remove it and clean it then it might help . if not i am gonna buy a new one and install it . i have to try all the possibilities before i give up. do you know by any chance what is the BOLT size on this sensor cause yesterday i tried to play with it but non of my tools were able to secure that bolt. any idea about the size?

thanks

Do 2g cars have a thermo switch on the bottom of the rad like the 1gs? My fans weren't working period and that was my problem. On 1g dsms, when the rad gets warm enough, the thermo switch will turn on and then complete the circuit for the ignition/relay and therefore engage the fans. I would check that; that is if 2g cars have thermo switches of course.

iam calling the wise men please help

i changed today the coolant temp senosr with new one from mitsubishi but still my fans are kicking in late????

here is what i have done so far:

1- new thermostat
2- radiator flush
3- checked all the fuses and the fans relay they are ok i even tried to connect the fans straight
4- changed the coolant temp sensor
5 - changed the lower radiator hose twice and now its giving me a balloon again ??????
6- i doubled the seal on my radiator cap as it was leaking and pushing coolant to the overflow tank.
7- i disconnect the coolant sensor and my fans are on all the time but i have a cel , so i connect it again.

what else should i check please help me

the fans are working properly but LATE ???????
