Racing seats....am I rice or what?

Well I was thinking about the CR-1s. Now after seeing that post it definetly finalized my decision.

i like the 3rd set. as long as you bolt em down right they shouldnt be unsafe. post pics if you end up getting them

I'd like to change my GSX stock leathers (mainly because Katrina screwed the seat motor up), but I can't find racing seats that come in tan leather.

If you build the brackets correctly, and you know how to weld and all that you will have no problems, but i wouldnt go testing out and see if you can do it by building the brackets if you dont know any welding or metal work. Its just not worth the risk, test out on something else and through the years learn, and if you dont think you can build them yourself have a reputable welder to the work, then you know its done correctly and you wont go flying through the window in your bucket seat LOL :)

I personally wouldn't get any Corbeau seats. They are a bit like a Lamborghini; they have no racing history. Thus, they lack experience.
A person with a PhD gets paid more in the real world then people who haven't graduated highschool... they obviously know more and have more experience in that field.

Uh, dont know what the person with the PHD has to do with a car, but corbeau makes some nice seats. They are made for racing so I dont know how you would go wrong with that?

I'm guessing his example of a guy with a Phd was not directly related but it was to show that a person (or seat company) with years of experience in the field will be more qualified and someone could trust their life with them more then a kid out of high school with no experience (corbeau i guess).

Underpressure - check out that summit link that i posted, scroll down and they have tan racing seats that are very high quality ($199 each i think)

I have a friend who's been welding for 15 years and gets paid to do it so i'm not too worried about that but yea the brackets i think make the seat. Not so much the seat itself, unless you can point me to a story where the actual back rest or whatever totally got ripped off? WTF In which case i think you'd be F'd in the A regardless of seat.

Byrd, got it.

I'm not ripping on Corbeau at all. I'm just saying that you'd have better luck with Recaro or Sparco. Sparco and Recaro are used in F1, JGTC/ Super GT, WRC, Speed World Challenge cars, ALMS, German Touring cars, pretty much every form of racing. They have literally been there and done that. ;)

I love my Corbeau A4s...very supportive, since im a little on the skinny side. I was thinking about getting the cheaper "Ralliart" seats from a random site, but the Corbeaus for $550 was too good of a deal to pass up. Couldnt ask for more at this point.

Personally, I like how the 2nd gen leather seats feel. I'm just gonna get mine reupholstered to all black, with silver inserts in the lower back/butt part.

I got tenzo R seats. I know the original seats fade real bad thats why I got mine covered in nice material. I only paid 250 for both though and then got them restitched. They a very comfortable seats. The only thing I dont like is that they are a little bit of a pain to get in and out of, but once your in, it's an awesome feeling.
yeah i have these seats in my cruiser, i could sit in there all day long:thumb:

Flash, I think you're over the top on this one. Comparing sparco as having a PhD and Corbeau as a highschool graduate is incorrect. It would be more correct if you said, one person has been doing a job for 20 years, the other for 5. Yes, the more experience helps, however when sparco and recaro are giving seats away to racers such that you notice them in racing applications, they also have to charge more. And not neccesarily for a better seat.

Corbeau makes FIA and SFI legal seats for road racing as well.

It is good to be the safest as possible, and that is why I would reccomend looking at SCCA, NASA, NHRA etc for companies that make race legal seats. and go from there.

You also have to realize that you are not driving an F1 car, super gt, wrc etc. You're driving a street car in which you will rarely get over 90 mph, much less experience even a third of the G forces these seats are required to withstand to become race legal.

Just don't be stupid. Go with a seat that will be safe and comfortable. The rest comes down to opinion.

Yeah thats where i was going with that comment. Just would have made more sense to say one person working in a field for longer than another. Since both are dealing with the same thing (seats) both people should be qualified the same, but one doing it longer than the other. Either way i have sparcos and i like them so i do agree with you that sparcos are nice seats.

Swade...

they make Corbeau A4s in a "WIDE" version. Since the original A4s are built for slim people, the WIDE version would be the seat for you.

http://www.corbeau.com/products/a4/a4.shtml#

Go there and compare the dimensions of the reg. A4 seats vs the WIDE A4s...the regular version holds up to a 36 inch waist while the wide version holds up to a 40 inch waist.

I'm always going over the top. :)

I'm 6'2" and my stock 2g leather seats hurt my back. I hated them. I think cloth 1g seats are way more comfortable.

Have fun getting into a crash with ebay seats, Its pretty funny peopel will cheap out on safty.

If you were so worried about safety why did you buy a car with no driver air bag, no side impact bags etc.... For one, not everyone gets in wrecks. Or should I say wreks bad enough to say they died because of the seat. Yes, it has happened, but that's a 1 in 6,348,245 chance that it was the seats fault as to why they died and/or injured.

Show me tests where the ebay seats were less safe then the sparco's, and not just sparcos are on all the race cars blah blah blah. Call me retarded but I have a feeling that if you made the ebay seats alot more expensive people wouldn't be worried bout safety anymore.

Seat companies that actually have confidence in their seats pay FIA and SFI to certify them. These companies then have race legal seats. Companies that just put a seat together for looks and "agressive feel" do not actually consider the forces and strength required in the application.
