So to start things out. I did search for this on the forums for "Quick Release HUB", but the posts didn't really answer my questions. So:

This will be going on a 98 GSX for anti theft purposes. (as well as a hidden kill switch) I know of 2 brands i am interested in (TEKNIQ AutoSport and Sparco) but my question is how much of a difference will it make to the amount of space between me and the actual steering wheel? I am about 6 feet tall with long arms and i already know that i need an after market wheel (most likely a Sparco) to even have my legs fit right. Knowing the previous owner quite well, i know that the seat rails have been removed so the seat is bolted to the car itself where i will want it to be leg wise for the pedals. (not actually gotten the car yet. getting last minute things done and then it will be mine) So if my arms are at the proper position before the kit at where i want the seat, will the added length (if any) of the quick release hub make the wheel closer to me making it uncomfortable and uneasy to drive?

Also if anyone can give feedback on the difficulty of installing the kits from the 2 manufactures above or if the Sparco one is not applicable to my car please do so.

Thanks in advance for any help at all.

Nick

I've not done one: however, count on a QRH to bring the wheel anywhere from one to three inches closer to you, depending on what scheme the hub uses for mounting.
Check eBay as well, they have had circle track releases for sale there, most of which require being welded to the column.

Ouch...maybe 3 inches? And i don't like the idea of welding since it is not available to me. Although if it is the shortest type, i may need to do so. You mentioned that they have different "schemes" for mounting the hub. Do you know them (or anywhere i can find them) by Type name or manufacturer?

And Thank you so much for your reply Defiant. It was very helpful.

Time to start net-plowing. I'd begin with eBay and see what's for sale there, then google "release hub" and sift through all the bicycle crap that'll bring up.

The welding would be a minor issue, other than finding a shop who'd give little enough of a shit to mess with something so trivial as a car's steering.
I don't know what you're going to be up against in terms of making it look good. The 2G column plastic looks like a damned tree stump once the airbag's not blocking its view.
