im getting ready to buy a new steering wheel, i know which one i want (just a cheap lil autotecnica) i know the spacer that fits it, but it says i need an installation kit, but i couldnt find any for a 91 laser, i didnt find any for a 91 eclipse either, do i really need this installation kit? if i do where can i find one, any help would be appreciated, thanks, later

Yeah, you'll need the installation kit for any steering wheel you buy (unless it's OEM and its called the hub kit.). I found this one on ebay and I think its pretty cool:

Its $88.00 plus $16.95 shipping. I think its really clean but sporty looking along with the silver trim and black vinyl. It universal fitment and like I said before, you can go up to autozone or Murray's and get a hub adapter; find a way to hook your horn to the horn on the steering wheel and your good to go. Only think about replacing steering wheels is the airbag :( so proceed with caution :nono:

i once thought of changing my steering wheel..but if i ever do happen to get in a wreck i want that airbag there for my protection...if i knew i was never gonna get into a wreck i would change it in a heartbeat.

Airbag in my neon saved my life...

i dont have an airbag, the thing is though jcwhitney says they have the installation kits, just not for the 91 laser, talon, or eclipse, they have the steering wheel and spacer just not the installation kit, arrg :D

but how do i know the momo hub kit will fit the autotecnica steering wheel i want? and what the heck is the spacer for then?

just cant seem to pay the 50 for the momo hub. It's basically a nut and a metal circle. Already paid 50 for a GM one.... Guess my Momo Jet will just have to sit on my Trans Am...
If anybody ever finds a cheaper adapter PLEASE let me know :talon:

Actually, i went the cheaper route. I just got a leather wrapped wheel from a AWD model to replace the plastic one.... :|

If you're further away from the wheel than your grandmother, and are belted-in, the airbag won't reach you and you won't reach the wheel. Oh, it can still blow your hands off the wheel, break your wrists, bust your thumbs and chemically burn you, though. :|

The "installation kit" should only be a hub adapter.

so whats the spacer then, here i got links, (didnt think steerin wheels were so complicated  )
this is the wheel i want: http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/...Id-100000289856/Pr-p_CATENTRY_ID:100000289856 (notice on the top is says spacer and installation kit needed)

heres the spacer (whatever it is): http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/...40/Pr-p_CATENTRY_ID:1000002898625000002003140

and heres the installation kit (i found none that are made for a 91 laser, eagle, talon though, this one is for a plymouth acclaim: http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/.../Pr-p_CATENTRY_ID:100000212023201818822003140

Is that wheel 5-bolt? The better ones (MOMO, Sparco) use six, 5-bolts were something that Grant came up with to try and keep their stuff proprietary. And of course, Nardi use a 6-bolt with a different circle diameter. Most hub adapters include the splined hub which mounts to the steering column, and a section made out of webbed steel to provide some crush space to keep the Feds happy. The horn button should come with the horn.

wow...not something i look forward to ..hmmm...

from the looks of it, jcw separated the adapter kit into 2 parts...the hub adapter and the spacer (sleeve), which would (from the pictures) be the cover so you do not see the convoluted mess of an adapter. if you are dead set on that wheel it looks like it is time for some physical research. go down to your local junkyard and take a look at the plymouth or any chrysler car you can find a kit for in roughly the same year model (dsm = chrysler/mitsubishi joint venture) as your eclipse and see if the steering column bolt pattern is a match for your eclipse. as defiant said different companies make different style adapter kits (most of your better wheels will use a momo kit)...you might find that the only thing that will work is a jcw kit on that wheel. unless of course your feeling gamey and want to fab one up yourself. this thread looks to be a good example of "YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR" and "DO YOUR HOMEWORK BEFORE YOU JUST GO OUT AND BUY PARTS"

imo, this is the perfect wheel for the eclipse and it uses a momo kit. solves the banged knee problem. however hub kits look like a** to me. thats the only reason this wheel or any other is not on my car.

check on ebay! i just was cruising around and saw some guy selling cool ralliart wheels w/momo hubs for a decent price... im thinking about changing out my wheel!

anyhow, can you still use the cruise control if you go to an aftermarket wheel?

thanks in advance!

well i emailed a guy at autotecnica guy and asked him about my situation, and he told me to get a grant installation kit, so now i have to look for one of those for a 91 laser...weak :D

I just recently purchased the wheel that is pictured above and a HKB/Boss hub adapter from Racing Dimension. I thought the adapter was supposed to come with the resistor for the SRS light but it did not. So, I still have to work that one out. The adapter has cruise control buttons on the top of the hub cover. The cruise control setup is kinda generic though, only Set, Cancel and Accel. No Resume or Deccel. You also get to keep the clock spring and when it's all installed you really can't tell it isn't factory.
