2G Questions regarding 1g rear axles in a 2g.

Ok so I read this thread because I'm in need of a driver side lsd rear axle for my 2g and can't find one. I really just need the cup for the hub side.

And im slightly confused here. I get the concept of putting the 1g rear axles in the 2g and all, but you would have to switch the cup (I'm assuming the outer cup as the 1g's are bolt on flanges). The cup the guy used is from going to rock auto and buying a non lsd 2g rear axle, and taking the end cup off and putting it on the 1g axle shaft.

Everything I have read says that the 2g non lsd end cups won't work on a LSD differential because they are smaller. But this guy seemed to make it work no issue. So which is it? Can anyone confirm? My concern is that the end cup splines line up, but are slightly smaller and will strip out the hub or something. All I need is the outer cup so if this works, I'll just buy a non lsd axle and only use the end cup

You need the outer cup that goes into the hub? I think the outer is the same for all 2g, the Inner that goes into the diff its self is sorter on the non LSD vs LSD and does not interchange.

Yeah so I have the LSD cup that goes into the differential. I was dumb and threw away the cup that goes into the hub even though it was fine and only the shaft was snapped.

I have an LSD axle shaft that I can take out of my parts car, but I destroyed the hub side cup trying to get it out because it was seized in there (as they all are).

So my plan was to order a non LSD rear axle off of rock auto and just take the outer cup off of it and use it. If it will work.

I can 100% confirm this works. JUST did it on my 99 GSX LSD rear.

Oh yes you should be able to do that.
