I have a 95 talon TSI, it has a 16g turbo and some bolt ons. I have been having some trouble with getting it running right. I have no logging experience or tuning experience and was just wondering is link just as good at diagnosing problems as it is as tuning? Also can someone with no experience figure out how to use link after some reading and messing around with it?

I am new to link aswell and yes its even better at finding problems as you can see minor problems before they get worse! And you can learn link aswell just like everyone does and I am still reading and learning it, one of the best mods people can do to tune and make there car run better with the mods on the car,

thats why I sold my 16g Turbo for link to best get the best out of my car

Yeah I have been reading a lot about it and studying a lot I just wanna make sure it will be worth it because it is a pretty good chunk of money since I have to send in my ecu and everything. I think it's my best move at this point though to get this car running right

It's helpful at diagnosing problems, but you also have to know what you're looking for. For example, it won't pop up a "Danger to manifold" screen if you run too lean or rich, or if you have a boost leak :p

Yes, as long as you put in some time to read, almost anyone can learn link. It's very user friendly and you can make it as simple or as complicated as you want. Some users will never use it to it's fullest extent and that's perfectly fine.

As always, there's a lot of knowledgeable people here and on the link forums that are willing to help you as long as you make an attempt to learn yourself and show effort in solving your own problem. Most don't appreciate when you post up and say "I have no idea what's wrong with my car but here is a log." Check out the sticky threads in the ECMLink tuning forum here for some good starter info.

Haha yeah I don't have tuning experience but I wouldn't expect it to just pop up something is wrong, I'm gonna get it ordered and hit the forums and start reading like crazy, thank you guys for the info and ill be back on here needing some help when it comes in I'm sure haha. Thank you guys again, this forum has given me the confidence to pretty much do anything on these cars

Only wb I've heard of link having problems with is the aem uego, BUT I run the uego and haven't had any problems it is just a tad bit more work getting link to match what the gauge is reading.

I got it ordered, going to be shipping my ECU out for socketing. Another question, how does the MTX-L wideband match up with link, i figure i should have a wideband to correspond with link

This may be a silly question, but did you make sure the ECU was EPROM before sending it off to be socketed? If the ECU is non-EPROM then it will need to be converted, which costs a bit more.

The MTXL is a great wideband and it's completely compatible with Link. I've yet to hear of one having the logging issues commonly experienced with the AEM UEGO.

Yeah I took the ecu out and checked it, it's EPROM, just needs to be socketed. Ill get the MTX-L ordered as well, I read somewhere that it matched up great but just wanted to double check. Now I have a question that's kinda off topic but I figured while I'm waiting for my ecu to get back I will fix my boost leaks, well I have a terrible one at the throttle body where as I pump the air in it just as fast comes out, now I've sprayed soapy water all around the throttle body and everything and can't pin point where it's coming from so I figured I would just put done new throttle body gaskets in, I have autozone a call and they said that there is only one throttle body gasket. I need the one that is in between the intake elbow and the one in between the plenum and throttle body but can only find one? Are they both just the exact same thing? Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question LOL

It could also be your throttle body shaft seals.
With a 95 your car is 18 years old (or even 19 depending on when it was built) so I'm sure those seals are due for a replacement.

The boost leak question should really be in a different thread in the proper forum.

Could be:
Throttle body to elbow gasket - EXTREME PSI : Your #1 Source for In Stock Performance Parts
Throttle body to intake manifold gasket - EXTREME PSI : Your #1 Source for In Stock Performance Parts
Shaft seals
BISS o-ring (probably wouldn't leak like a sieve, but is still probably shot)

Yeah I didn't mean to get off topic I just didn't wanna open a whole new post for the question. Thank you for the info I didn't even thin about the shaft seals, ill get those ordered as well and just put all new gaskets in

Yes, but you would either have to get a gm maf and use it in blow thru or get a map sensor and iat sensor and set it up for speed density.
