I just had a local performance shop slap a Holset turbo off a Ram 3500 Diesel truck today...Let me just say HOLY SHIT!! I thought my stock turbo boosted well... Im in the process of ordering a fmic to fead the beast. They also threw on a porsche bov. Sounds awesome! I should have some pics soon. I will say this, im not afraid of anyone in my town now. Talon Tsi AWD with a Holset.... Damn, this could be the car of my dreams...

Did they actually produce a bunch of different ones though? Corky Bell covers the VATN turbo in his book, but doesn't give much info on availability. They certainly have not gone mainstream.

The one he covers was produced by Aerocharger. It is a marvelous idea. No wastegate, all the exhaust goes through the turbine.

Ah ha! Let your fingers do the walking. See Aerocharger's website. Cool info.

After much digging, here is the info I was looking for. Not too many different models. They appear to be quite compact, not water lines either and self contained lubrication. I wonder how they keep the oil from turning to sludge?

:bs:

A diesels turbo would need more than a 2.0 with NOTHING DONE TO IT can produce.

DSM_AWD_TSI----> As for your input, the turbo i put on it isnt from a new dodge truck, its the previous body style and if im not wrong, they changed to a new turbo for the new body change. I would be glad to give you more info or point you in the right direction.

As for my exhaust being too restrictive for the turbo to spool, i live in Indiana where we dont have to pass emission tests so i only have a downpipe from the turbo, thats it. I took the rest of the exhaust off. The downpipe however is 4inch.

As for hose, hose101772, you blew your credability when you told everyone your a used car salesman. Your comment shows you dont know anything about the porsche (thats right, P O R S C H E....learn how to spell) BOV because it is rated to hold 22 psi, though it can hold more.

I included a pic of the big holset sitting within the engine bay of the supra i was talking about. The turbo has to have its own oil pan because if it gets oil directly from the engine, it will suck out most of it and lock the engine up....

BS???? Haha..... I will have pics here in a while of the holset powered DSM.

OK, so far you showed us three pictures of some turbo in a SUPRA, this even farther questions your credibility.

And even if this turbo works fine in a 3.0L Supra, it does not mean that it will work in a 2.0L DSM. I find it very hard to believe that it has the same spool-up characteristics of a 14b...

Give us pics of it on YOUR car, in YOUR engine bay, and ppl may belive you.. they would belive you alot more if you spelled your name out on a pice of paper and put that on top of the engine...

It likely is a simple actuator like a wastegate actuator. Retracted at low boost and extends to open as needed.

The spring the actuator fights sets up the pressure level.

Also note that it has a shaft speed sensor.

So you'd need switched control air pressure based on the shaft speed sensor readings.

If you could control it it would work.

I just got my new turbo. I'll have install pics of it soon. Its actually not as big as it looks, that guy is really a midget. I think I have some pics of that turbo on a Supra, let me look... ;)

LOL ok so you fabbed up a manifold to put it on, and you dont have any fans on your radiator now because they dont fit, and the stock WG actuator that is set at 30+psi on the diesel is still there and your running 30psi on stock headgasket and fuel pump and everything else but you dont know because you dont have a boost gauge, and the huge turbo meanth for a 5.9 liter spools up the same as a turbo 1/5th the size of it meant for a 2 liter, yeah, go troll a nother board you stupid damn newbie, waste of our time

diesel turbo's arent meant for performance, they arent nearly as efficient as a normal turbo they just meant to push tons of airflow and psi because the diesel runs of detonation so it doesnt need efficiency you dumbass

FWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! @ Tallen... you know that would make one HELL Of a turbojet engine...

and there not THAT hard to make.... one that size could probly put out alot more than 400lb of thrust..i would guess like 700lbt+

thats my t-25's fate... :)

I'm a controls engineer at Cummins in Midrange Controls and I deal with this turbo every day. Even if you did all the mods to get it into the engine bay, I don't know how you would incorporate the logic to use the variable nozzles (separate CPU or something), nor how you would mount the big-ass air compressor needed to operate the actuator.

You Tallen, you do that stuff?

I was thinking of doign the same with my t-25 when i get a replace ment. those jet engine conversions are cool.

This reminds me of the thred where the guy had a camero transmission... didnt he say he could beat lando? not sure... funn though

yea of course. i tinker with things alot, from cars, to apintball, to anything cool (tesla coils, etc)

dude right on, i built a tesla coil runs off of a 15000 v NST we were abole to get about 3 foor arcs

OMG I'd bet you have to be careful where that hits you. You say it produces 15kV or runs off of 15kV? It would have to be a lot more than 15 kV to jump 3 feet. That could be fun to play with.
