Ok well about a month ago i was driving and all of a sudden when i pushed my clutch in at a light, the car died... didnt think much of it, thought i stalled it.. so i start it back up and notice that it is turning over weird.. so i turn the radio down, and listen...GRINDING... great.. well i let the car sit for a month cause i was so busy, but finaly got around to working on it.. i thought it was a TOB, so i was taking the trans out to change it..well to my suprise, i find the bolt on the front bottom of the trans (one right by the slave), was broken...snapped right off in the tranny/block some how...so i kept workin on the car then i got to the t-case...pulled that off and noticed a nice notch grinded in it from my flywheel....well i didnt investigate it to much, i just took the trans out, changed the TOB, extracted the broken bolt, and put everything back togeather (new bolt as well) .. well that was all saturday, and now here i am with the same problem on monday.. dont even think i put 20 miles on the car..

any ideas what it could be????? Motor mount? trans mount? a few months ago i noticed my motor mount by the timing belt was ripped... didnt replace it yet..

so what does everyone think?

there are pics of the t-case and broke bolt here : http://dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=136603

check all of the bolts again and make sure they are all tight. I had the same thing happen on mine and thats what it was was a loose tranny mount bolt

im ordering poly mounts tomorrow... 85 from RRE, ,plus a free plate frame :D

ok well i got under the car today somewhat.. this time the bolt did not break.... it just backed out.....??? unscrewed its self somehow.. i know i had it tight in there.....

also.. there is a good amount of movement in all the mounts under the hood when you push the clutch in. when you push the pedal, the back of the engine, and front of the trans move down towards the ground... if that makes any sense..

If the trans was properly mounted to the engine block, then pushing in the clutch shouldn't make anything move because they'd be together as one piece. Especially with the bad bolt now, sounds like pushing in the clutch is pushing the trans away from the block on one side, as evidenced by the cut-up transfer case. If you don't have the little 8mm or 10mm or whatever bolt on the backside of the trans and block that bolts the two together, that'll do it. It's a small bolt that doesn't look like it does much, but it does much.

This second time around, the big bolt might have just worked itself loose due to vibration, but otherwise the wear and tear on it might have now stripped it. I can't picture the exact bolt at the moment, but if it threads into the block, then if it's stripped you might have to drill and tap it one size bigger or just slide a bolt fully through the holes and put two nuts on the other end. Gotta make sure that little bolt on the backside near the transfer case is there, though.

i cant even picture what bolt your talking about... so im guessing that it is not there..now i gotta figure out what hole you are talking about.

the bolt that came out didnt look stripped, and it didnt have any pulled out threads on it. it looks good.

wow...im really gonna feel like a jackass when i find out it was a missing bolt!

thanks

edit...........

ok i just looked on vfaq and found what i needed....i know this bolt is not there!

Yeah, that looks like the one. It's hard to see when the transfer case is on. It can cause all sorts of problems if it's not there.

yeah that guy is not there for sure... wow... i cant belive that all of this is from a missing bolt.

thanks, i never would have found that if i didnt PM you.

here is the follow up.............

so far so good! i found the right size bolt (m8x1.25 60mm), at work and put it in, along with the front bolt that backed out. Looks to be holding like a champ. It has been in there since friday. i also put in some prothane motor mounts, only the timing belt side, and front so far. Thanks for the help guys, i appreciate it. I never would have thought there would have been a bolt there.
