Ok so i'm a little new to the whole dsm street scene and have been looking at a couple of dsm's. I recently went to go test drive a eclipse the retard dumped the clutch and he didnt have the following: fuel injectors, boost controller, tuned ecu (not even a upgraded one at that its the stock one). So when he did that he blew either a head gasket or a head. I'm looking to buy it for 1500 but he's asking 2200 and i'm wondering whether or not its worth it. And to top it all off its a salvaged title. Below is the mods he had done to it thats in the car right now.

16G EVO TURBO,EXHAUST MANIFOLD,FRONT MOUNT INTERCOOLER,STAGE 1 BRIAN COWER CAMSHAFTS,GREDDY BLOW OFF VALVE,3"INCH MEGAN EXHAUST SYSTEM WITH 3" CAT AND A 3" TEST PIPE TO SWITCH OUT,HKS BOOST CONTROLLER,ALUMINUM RADIATOR,EXEDY CLUTCH KIT,LIGHT WEIGHT PULLEYSAND NEW UPPER AND LOWER CONTROL ARMS WITH NEW BALL JOINTS AND NEW CV AXLES UP FRONT.EVERYTHING WORKS.

Thanks for advice in advance and oh yeah i'm new so take it easy ;)

You're asking for an opinion and i'll give you mine. First off ask yourself, how many miles are on it? Also, if you haven't yet noticed, sooo many of the world's dsms are modded and beaten on. These are cool looking cars that a lot of young people buy and just want to have fun with them. After reading your story it sounds like he wanted to have a little more fun with it than he wanted to keep it alive. All those mods without any tune at all? In some cases that would work (not too well), but not dumping the clutch or going that hard on it. Also, if he was willing to run that thing hard without completely supporting his mods, how do you know he even installed his mods correctly and safely? From reading your post, i personally wouldn't, but i'm not so hot on funds right now so that's a factor too. haha and whether it'll be a daily driver or not. But i looked up and down to find a good dsm to buy because i wanted one very bad. i went through a lot of stops to check them out, but i'm glad i took the time to find a good one instead of finding the first cheap deal i saw. i found my 97 GST with 85k miles, clean title, stock, and one owner. i think it pays to be patient and find a nice car.
Sorry for the long post, but thats just my .02! Good luck!

First off dumping the clutch won't hurt anything in the engine usually. It will destroy the center differential in the transmission though. Being that it has a salvage title i wouldn't pay much at all. If you ever plan on selling it than remember that you won't get very much for it.

Thank you guys for all your comments i think i'm just gonna walk away because i'm looking to get a 96 tsi awd talon with less mods but has only 55k on the whole car but the car i was looking at had 85k on the whole car and yeah i know i was wondering why he didnt have the other half of the mods. I usually read the forums on here and it seems like the mods that he didnt install are the main ones that are required to install before you even upgrade the turbo. Ha but if he sells it for dirt cheap i'll probably let it sit until i have the money to upgrade the rest of it and then try to sell it on here or on craigslist! thanks again and your opinion helps alot!

By the parts list im assuming everything is from ebay.

16G EVO TURBO - If the turbo says "evo" or "turbocharger" on it, then its a fake and not worth $1.
STAGE 1 BRIAN COWER CAMSHAFTS - They dont list a "stage 1" cam on their site
BrianCrower.com | RunBC.com // Mitsubishi // 4G63

EXEDY CLUTCH KIT - ebay clutch, most are junk.
LIGHT WEIGHT PULLEYS - causes excessive vibrations, remove asap.
ALUMINUM RADIATOR - probably says "jdm" on it LOL

But really the whole list sounds like ebay junk. If thats the case i wouldn't pay scrap prices for the car.

oh and he had all the receipts for the add-ins and heres a links to pics of it.

I’m also wondering if this car is even worth buying at the price posted it’s currently at 4900 because I got him to lower it due to the body work needed. But again your opinions are very helpful!

1998 eagle talon 2.0 tsi awd turbo with 52,xxx miles on it. it has hard upper and lower intercooler piping, a 1g blow off valve, apex catback exhaust, apex down pipe, megan racing tubular O2 housing, in dash dual gauge pod, autometer boost gauge, autometer wideband O2 UEGO, front and rear stabilizer bars, B&M short shifter, injen intake pipe with high flow filter, it also has an EVO V awd NGK bpr-6es spark plugs and NGK spark plug wires.

Man that sounds like a pretty good price. You don't find them with low miles like that. Looks pretty clean too. I'd say pick it up if it's mechanically sound! Check it out!

yeah i've test driven that one and he even dumped the clutch in that one and nothing happened plus he even did a sharp turn about 35-40mph its pretty mechanically tuned! i just wanted to make sure i'm going in to a good deal is all thanks!!

That's not necessarily a good thing. Him driving it like an idiot says to me it's been beat on.

yeah i know him though so i mean he has that 240 next to it and also a vtech civic that he is building as we speak so i mean he knows what he's doing but if anything ever went wrong i know where he lives LOL ;-)

Get that talon hands down. for 5k it worth it with the miles. dont mess with salvage one. unless you can get your hands on it for a grand. in that case you can part it out and make your money back.

A salvage title can mean an awesome deal depending on what it was for. You can dent these cars in a quarter panel and total them out. It could of been a theft recovery and just found months later in perfect condition.

Yeah the only bad thing is he won't sell the car because he's waiting to get a bike for the same price but I've been waiting on him for about a month but I'm willing to drive to any of the nearby states so if anybody knows of someone getting rid of one in Texas new Mexico Oklahoma Kansas Louisiana Missouri let me know! And once again thank you in advance!

Well, On this subject, I talked to the guy with the TALON and I almost picked it up, but I just can't get the idea of a talon and me in it...I would just rather have a gsx. Just my "personal car brand" ugly ways, I guess....:coy:
