Pulling out just the 1G engine harness? Taking out just the heater boxes?

How can I just pull out the 1g engine wiring harness? Some of my engine wiring harness was fried and I cut the harness right as it enters the cockpit and cut another harness at the junkyard, I planned to just splice them together, but there are 4 red wires that I can't tell a difference between so I'm screwed. I want to know if there is any way of just pulling the engine harness out? I've got a few days to get everything done. Or can I just pull out the the heater boxes and get access to what I need? Can anybody give me some info on pulling out the heaterboxes/glovebox/misc dash near that area. I guess I can try and test which red wire belongs to which.

Good luck on those four red wires. As for pulling the dash and heater, it is a pain but you can do it in a few hours and it would make putting a complete harness in easier if you go that route. The plastic dash and the big black spongey vinyl cover on it come out as one piece along with the air ducting underneath it. You'll just need to pull the instrument surrounds and the instrument cluster, then push the wires for the cluster out the back. The Glove box is held by a couple of tabs on the front. Just push in the sides and pull it down to get to the hinge. The heater and A/C can be a pain to get out but will have to since the wires go underneath them. FYI, you can't just pull those boxes without pulling the whole dash. It'll all have to come out. It also makes it easier to get the dash out if you pull your steering wheel off. Just make sure it is straight before you pull it so it goes back on right!

I personally would not trust a spliced together harness with my life and limb or just with my car's health. Best of luck whatever you choose to do.

You know, the whole process would probably be easier if I just took the dash off and replaced the whole thing, the problem is there are only N/T's at the junkyard. There was one turbo awd car, but the wiring harness looked like it was pretty beat by the weather, the plugs were all dry and brittle. I can try that harness, but other than that my only option is to repair it.

Its already fried so what does it matter?

I'd replace it dont try and rewire it. I fried the engine harness in my 91 laser a few years ago. After I got the dash off and ecu out all the wiring into the ecu was all fried and melted togeather. (Surprisingly that ecu still worked ) It would be much easier to find a complete harness out of a 91-94 awd and swap that in. If you have to find it online, (thats where I found mine) do it, dont half ass it. Good Luck, it really isnt all the hard just time consuming for a 1st timer.
