help, the engine just stalled out of nowhere!

the other night i was driving along and went to pass someone, so i downshifted into second gear and hit the gas. Well, it felt extremely sluggish when i accelerated, and a few seconds later the car just totally died on me. could anyone tell me what is wrong, it has done this a few times, and its is really starting to bug me. any feedback would help

make sure that your intake is not leaking behind the air sensor. when i had my CAI i was leaking through the joint in the middle causing teh car to stall when the clutch was pressed in.
