I have a 1990 Eclipse GSX and i was wondering if u could pull out just the motor or if u had to pull the tranny and transfer case out with it???

Its alot easier to pull the engine and tranny together. I would also like to know how hill pulled his engine out and left the tranny in the car? You have to slide the input shaft out before you can pull the engine right?...

I've pulled my 2g gst motor out without the tranny and doing it by hand (no hoist) :p
Well to be fair I had help and a lot of grunting and farting was done ROFL

Pull as much off the timing side as possible you can angle it in and out.

Yes. 5 bolts to disconnect the transfer case. Easiest to do with a 1/2 drive and some extensions. Then you can slide it right off the rear axle. Disconnect the lower ball joints. Remove the cv shafts. Necessary obvious parts: motor mounts, wiring, intercooler piping, etc. etc. Hoist up the motor. Raising the timing side first (angle this side higher) Bring the transmission with it. Very simple when you are repetitively doing this procedure.

im going to atempt to pull just the motor this time on mine, I did the trans/engine last time, but that was replacing the trans too, this time motor, oil pump took a crap, getting a hone/ring job, new rods, bearings etc, and kicking the 16g habbit and going PTE 50trim :sneaky:

yeah looks that way, i though i could do just the trans, but nope, the a/c pump and that extra pully looks to be what is going to get it hung up, Sucks, just put new trans fluids in... all well, so i buy more trans fluid LOL.
