Winter came to soon. Well I finally got my garage heater, so I can work in the garage with shorts and a sweatshirt on.

Here are my plans.

Clean up the engine bay
Swap my interior to all black
Basically just clean up the car.

Looks much better. I hope to do this to my GSX as well. A local guy has a 99 Eclipse with a black/leather interior...So sexy.

i just did the conversion over the weekend ( friday and today) on two cars. i took complete grey interior out of my 95 gsx, and put it in a 96 talon fwd tan cloth interior car. trashed the tan. and put full black in my car. the interior came out of a 99 oz edition with 198,xxx miles but the seats look like the day they came off the showroom floor because the lady had seat covers on them since new. anyway, to do the dash, it is so easy compared to what everyone says. the hardest part is that if the new black dash didnt come out of a turbo car, then once you get the dash out of your car, you have to put the wiring harneses in the new black dash. if you read posts' on here saying that all the harnesses that work the guage cluster are the same, they are just guessing. i counted all the wires to each one . it is different. also the location of each wire is different. figured i would give you a heads up good luck. and if you have any general tool skills, it should take about a little under 2 hrs to take one out and have the new one in

Bringing my old thread back, I just want to see/hear everyone's opinion.

Winter came to quick, I parked my Eclipse in my parents garage and waited for Christmas. Well Christmas came, got some more tool, and now the project begins! This is what all I have done the past week. My Black Dash is coming Monday. So I will be putting it in next weekend. Here are the pictures, in order.

Got some more pictures! Taking the dash out is not hard at all, people say it is, but this was my first time, and it felt like I could do that in my sleep. So I pulled the dash, pulled the steering wheel (Had to rent a steering wheel puller from autozone). Took out some more rusty brackets. And I removed the big ugly auto shifter. I'll show you guys what I'll do in place (no 5 speed swap...).

And the worst part was when I went to peel up the sound deadening. It was all rust! yuck.... Took some rust remover gel, applied it, wiped it off, and started grinding. I also hand sanded most of the rust off also, which was not fun. Then I applied a coat of Rustoleum Engine Enamel, yeah i know Engine Enamel? I dont know... I just like the stuff.

Dash is out!

The dumb paint acts funny and makes a ripple effect. I get to excited and lay it down to thick. But I think it looks pretty good. But I still have the other side to do! yuck! haha, well I'll keep everyone updated

I have 98% of my interior out right now just like that (except for seats/dash - it's all being painted black) and I plan on using rubberized paint, kinda like bed liner but rubber on the floor/trunk/doors for sound deadening. Have you thought about this?

I would use the paint on Truck Bed liner if you want to go that route. I sprayed my wheel wells with rubberized undercoating and if the surface wasnt clean I could chip away the coating. But overall it was pretty good.

After I have everything rust free and painted. I will lay down some new sound deadening. jjrocks referred it to me. It's called "Fatmat"

STEERING WHEEL PULLER!??WTF LOL j.k i got mine off with about 4 whacks of a rubber mallet.:thumb: i just finished my full black interior yesterday, dash was cake to take out and install. overall i love the look! reminds me of my old 99 gsx interior! haha.

Looking good man Keep up the good work and keep us updated.

I also have the black leather rear seats LMK if you need them

Wow steveo. It looks very nice! Can you tell us what "gel rust removing" stuff you used?

I'd be interested in it.

I usually get mine off by pounding the back of the wheel with my fist too. That said, supposedly you can separate the rubber in the collapsible steering column. I wouldn't want to have to replace that.

Got a new steering wheel in the mail. 32xxx miles on it.

Nice! I might be pulling an all black interior at the junk yard so what tools did you use to get it done? Thanks! Looks WAY better all black :thumb:

Edit: I know I'm resurrecting an old thread...

For the dash you need a 10mm socket and a long extender to get underneath the airbag, and a long phillips head. For all the paneling just a flat screwdriver - it pops out, you'll need to remove the seatbelts first tho with a 12mm socket. Just bring a socket set
