Ok...this car isnt even mine, and it seems like it wasnt even worth buying in the first place. We bought this 99 eclipse GS with 42,000 on it, not bad right...

I swear the lady who owned it before must not have done a damn thing, ive had to replace the rotors, brakes, batery, plugs, and fuel filter...ill probably still have to replace the fuel pump because were still having issues where fuel is cutting off...but anyways

Now the damn passengerside lower ball joint, I beileve is phucked. U can here a clunk clunk clunk then quiet, then more clunking. The car was jacked up and I could wiggle it pretty easy =/.

So my question is to all u pro DSM'ers, first is fixing it something a pretty decent home mechanic can do? second, Ive been reading about recalls on the ball joints. If i take this to a mitsu. dealer will they help? and third Is there anything else that needs to be replaced with it.

the first thing u should do is to change timing belts,couse i think they are not changed when this car was born ))) si if the belts goona break you will lose a lot of $$$$$$

well ill keep that in mind, but my questions are directed torwards the ball joints, and that problem.

First thing to do, call the local dealership with your VIN number handy and see if they have done the recall on the lateral ball joints.

Mitsu has done my lateral arms twice now under recall, these ones finally seem to be holding up.

The lateral arms generally will cause a nasty grinding type sound when they are failing.
Clunking will generally be caused by the lower rear control arm (large curved piece) which is not covered under the recall.

Easiest way is to have the dealer do their free inspection, they will tell you what is worn out, they will replace laterals free if they are and you can replace the other parts yourself if they are bad.
