My friend just installed a trans and clutch on his 98 gst and the flywheel was resurfaced. when the clutch is release in neutral or in first gear the car stalls. what are some possible things that could cause that issue AND YES HE KNOWS HOW TO DRIVE A MANUAL CAR:Dm (I THINK):p. At first he said that he heard a banging sound then the wheels spun then they stopped moving

Is it possible the clutch is on backwards, from prior experience I know its hard to put the disc backward put some people can make anything happen.

Another thing to mention is that the trans that was installed came off a running car but the trans sat outside where on of the axle holes were uncovered and the breather hole was open so dirt got in. the fluid was flushed once and then replaced with fresh synchromesh.

The master and slave was also replaced

Hmm, if every time he disengages clutch it dies look into the crank trigger sensor by the crank. It also could mean crank movement causing the crank trigger to move and damaging the sensor. Assuming all other clutch related items are first checked.

Before installing the tranny, did he spin the input shaft by hand to make sure it was free and not seized up? If dirt was able to get into it, I'm sure rain was too causing bearings, races, gears, etc to rust.

There was no excess amount of water in the trans but obviously if its open moisture will would that be enough to sieze it????

Anything is possible. Did anyone spin the input shaft by hand and shift it through the gears before installing it? I've made it a habbit myself to do these things before ever installing a transmission. Even if it was removed fully functional from another car

That I'm not sure if he did, I'd have to ask

While you are at it (or he is), dump out the syncromesh and put in the proper fluid. Say no to Syncromesh
