I have a 1990 Talon TSI and i have replaced the clutch along with the slave cyclinder(have not touched the master yet) When its cold or driving it for the first time that day the shifting seems to be ok all the way to 5th. After awhile variing from 20-45mins from 1st to 2nd it will grind unless i gentle push it in and sometimes it still grinds. from 3rd to second it will not budge unless im 20mph or less or the engine is at idle.....this causing me to push in the clutch for an excessive ammount of time sometimes. and i just wanted another option before i go and repair/purchase a new MC.

Well i had my master and salve replaced and my 2nd gear did the same thing. It sounds like yours did the same as me. The problem was a bad 2nd gear syncro and i just had to have my transmission rebuilt. Hope that helps!

It sounds like the reason it is not grinding in the morning is because the oil in your transmission is thick but once your car warms up and the oil gets hot and it gets thin. Basically the cold oil is just hiding the grind untill it gets hot. But the reason it's grinding is because the syncronizer in 2 gear is going bad. Eventually it will not even stay in gear and it will pop out. I dont how much it will cost but you can get a shop to put a new syncro in 2 gear. There could be more possibiltys, but alot of DSM's have this problem.

It is so common for the 1st and 2nd gear synchro to go bad on these 1g's. Just take it to a shop and have them put in all new synchros while you have it in there. If you bring them the tranny, it should only cost about $250-$300 (approx.)

Once you get those replaced, you will feel amazed, getting to shit hard core into every gear and not having to worry.

If not already done, get yourself a short-throw shifter for the 1g, they tend to be "less-than-desirable". Your shift points are litterally from San Fransico to New York.....:p
