Pricing on dyno and install sound right?

I am going to be getting an Apexi AFC either SAFC-II or Neo, and the closest performance shop(like an hour away) said they charge $170 to install either one. Is that reasonable? I am not too comfortable myself slicing/soldering/hacking wiring. They also have an AWD dyno, and they do boost, a/f, hp & torque as many runs as you want tuning it for $175/hour. You can also do just three runs all the same readouts for $100. I am a TOTAL newbie at tuning anything fuel-wise, and think it would be wise to pay a little more to have someone who knows tune it properly. I want the car to last as long as possible...as long as a turbocharged dsm canROFL Just looking to see if those prices seem about right? Thanks guys! I really want to be able to drive my car knowing it's running right.

Safc install price seems a bit high. It's probably a flat rate they charge for all electronic installs. Dyno price doesn't seem to bad. They both seem a little high, but i guess living in West Virginia and having a friend that owned a shop made things cheaper.

Knowing alot of shops in the mid-atlantic, those prices are rather high. Being in the midwest and him being an hour away might mean he has the market all to himself, if you have no other choices, I guess the price is right. =)

Installing the AFC is very easy. I used to think the same as you and had it professionally installed, and like you was charged a lot for what I found out was a very easy job. When I removed the AFC for dsmlink, I found out it's only a matter of splicing a few wires. I consider myself electronics retarded yet even I did the latter very easily in an hour.

You can follow a great step by step guide here: http://my.prostreetonline.com/f69.htm

You don't even need to solder! Just get some butt connectors and wiring tape.

Also, you appear to be on stock injectors. If that's the case, you'll only be tuning within 5% airflow on that Big 16G. After you install the AFC you can leave it zero'd out and get a logger and learn tuning yourself. The money you save on the AFC and dyno tune could pay for a pocketlogger and NGK AFX wideband. :thumb:

I know a few shops too and that is expensive. I had my safc installed for $65 and thats just because I was lazy that day. Also its only $80 an hour to dyno tune at the shop I went to.

Should I be upgrading my injectors do you think? I really need this thing tuned...I think I could do the AFC install myself, after looking at vfaq and other sites. The site you provided all the pics are "x'd" out...any help?

Those pics must have went down recently. I'd contact the website's admin and see if they can fix the links.

You'll definately need bigger injectors and an AFPR to properly tune and bring out the power of that Evo 16G. 550s would be enough for your setup. You will need a datalogger as well.

I live in Wheaton, IL and if thats near by you, I will do it for $100. I have passed my Electrical ASE exam, and will be fully certified in 8 more months. There is a requirement of at least 2 years field experience before your certification is offical.

I have installed an SAFC-2 on a 1g a 2g and a VAFC on an Integra. I have also worked mainly with DSM's since I was 16 years old.

If you are interested PM me and we can discuss directions.

You're saying you'll tune my car or install the AFC for $100? Wheaton is right by Warrenville, where I am at least 1 or 2 nights a week.

Let me know if you meant tune or install.

Thanks
Lucas

if the guy is going to dyno tune at $175/hr, that is not a bad price. as long as you trust him to be a good tuner. the safc install is way expensive though. go let the guy do it for $100.

and if you are still on stock 450's with that 16g, yes, get some new injectors. 660's will do fine. if you have eprom, go get a chip and go with larger injectors, so you wont have to change them later on.
