Hey guys, so my 95 GSX is running strong at 143,xxx miles, compression is about 165/165/170/170 :D I Want to keep it going as long as it can. I will be putting some power down real soon.

From what I know, Stock Rod bolts stretch over time, and could potentially result in a spun rod at some time, depending on conditions. I'm looking to buy some ARP rod bolts to keep the engine going.

THE OTHER ISSUE. When un-torquing the OEM rod bearings, I am afraid that re-seating them will cause premature bearing failure. So, might as well replace the bearings and plastigage them to check clearances.

Can all this work be done in car? I know its easier to pull the engine, but I heard the FSM has a section to replace bearings in-car. True or False?

The stock bolts don't stretch over time. If the bolt was stretched the nut would come off and the engine would catastrophically destroy itself. You also can't just install new bolts without resizing the rod. If there is no problem with the bottom end than don't mess with it.

BUT, theoretically all bolts stretch over time. It could stretch thousandths of an inch, making it out of spec. and it would take one pass down the track to spin that bearing right out. It would be near impossible for the bolt to just pop off if not torqued down. The bolt length can increase, with fatigue and harsh heat cycles. Everything will age with time.

Thermal expansion: Tendency of matter to change in volume in response to a change in temperature

But yes, forgot about resizing it, I was just checking to see if it's possible. I just need to stop being lazy and pull it when it goes ;)
