ok, so im putting together my short block (FINALLY!) and i have a question, well a few questions. let me go over what my block and internals are first.
91 6 bolt std bore block
older 6 bolt eagle rods crs-5900-MBA (bought them used along with the pistons and 2 of my rods had to be repurposed)
weisco pistons std comp. ratio
stock 6 bolt crank with a polish
std size bearings i bought from o'reillys i plan to buy ACL race bearings once i figure out if i need under/over sized bearings.
the whole assembly has been balanced
now i have tried to post to the group on face book and all i get is a bunch of a**holes who say to let a machinist take care of it, or you don't have the right stuff, but i assure you i have checked and double checked i have the correct bearings. so if every one could keep an open mind and attempt to help me i would appreciate it. also keep in mind that i don't have access to fancy tools iv got plenty of the regular stuff and a few mics i can check stuff with.
my first question is as follows, with my bearings installed and torqued to spec im at .0003 the limit is .0004 is this to close? i feel it is but i talked to two different shops and both said it would be fine sense I'm planning to be around 400 hp they said it wouldn't hurt to have that extra oil clearance.
Now on to my rods, they are way to tight iv been told i can hone out the rods but that is going to throw off my balance not to mention how long it would take to hone out hardened steel. what am i to do? iv tried looking for .0001 over/under sized bearings but iv been unsuccessful so far.
Stm carries a bearing that is std with an extra .0001 oil clearance will this be what I'm looking for? I'm so lost and aggravated at this point i don't know what to do.
when i put my bearing in my eagle rods their is a gap between the edge of the bearing and the edge of the rods machine surface, as if the bearing isn't wide enough ill try my best to include a picture but this site doesn't like me to add pics some times. is this gap normal? will the ACL's be wider? any help will be greatly appreciated. iv tried my best to spell out all of my problems as completely as i can
-and pics! please post pics if you have them! i want to see a 6 bolt rod with a 6 bolt bearing installed (not on the crank) lots of angles so i can compare thank you.
