Powder Coating

Would it be ok to powder coat the engine block and cylinder head??
i have done my valve cover and intake and spark plug wire, they look awsome!
i was just wondering because of the heat, the car is a daily driver/show car...its a 98 GSX

Give it some time...its only been an hour.

Since you don't see the block very much, I wouldn't spend the money to powdercoat that...just hot-tank it and paint it with black engine block paint. As for the head, I think the nice clean silver look is best...just have it degreased and cleaned and it will look killer with your painted valve cover, spark plug cover, etc.

it doesnt cost me anything, i do the powder coating myself....all is costs is $20 for a 20oz bottle of powder....and that will do a whole engine bay.....and a set of 4 rims.......catch my drift

but yea, i think it would look good, i have all diff kinds of colors....i was thinking of doing the block and head in white, or chrome powder coat......my question really isnt if i should do it or not but more along the lines of, would it work??? or would it melt or crack....

I don't know about a daily driver/show car. I've seen a show car that was rarely driven that had it whole block powdercoated chrome with red accents. It didn't crack or anything so there's your answer there. I just know he never drove it much so how hot the block got, I couldn't tell you... Looks like your going to be the guinea pig

the powder coating is rated at 500 degrees, i dont think engines get hotter then that if so, you got prblems.....

No, but when you have a turbo hanging just inches from it that gets red hot, I'd start to worry. I painted mine with ceramic paint rated to 1300*...a bit overkill, but I didn't want it to start peeling.

Also, white might not be the best color for a block...I can just imagine all the oil/grease drips on it. Just my opinion though, I wouldn't want to be cleaning the engine bay every day.

Then you'd be wrong, there are high temp powder coats but they are the exception not the rule and still can't handle "almost any heat".

blackGSX2g raised a good point, and since your comment came after, it seemed like you were claiming that the powdercoating could take it.

Sorry I misunderstood you. I have no argument with the idea that powdercoating can withstand normal (meaning other than right next to a turbo or on the exhaust manifold) engine heat.

its ok i deserve it. I didnt exactly explain myself that well. But yea powdercoating could stand up to anything in an engine except turbo or exhaust manifold i would say.
