Just thought I'd throw up some pics of the results of my recent hobby I took up. I made my entire piping setup last year (fmic, intake, exhaust). But all the pipes remained uncoated, so me and a friend decided to pitch in money together and get some equipment so we can powdercoat on our own. Here are the first pieces we've done so far.

First two pics are my upper ic pipe, in Smoke Chrome.

My latest valve cover. The cover is in Wrinkle Black, and the letters done in Marblehead silver, which has a cement type texture to it.

looks good but rubbing with a wet spong could mess the powder up around the edges. moister and oils are an enemy to vergin powders.:thumb:

So my wrinkle black one has a crack where these things always crack, and was starting to leak oil in it. So I took it off and it's being stripped. But I had a spare Hyundai one laying around that I'm putting on.

Now I've been trying to figure out how to make a color to match the black cherry color of my car. They don't make a color that matches it. So I took a transparent red, and applied it over a gloss black base coat. Typically you put transparents over a white/silver/chrome base coat, and that gives it the "candy" look. On all the forms I'm on, no one had posted pics of a transparent over a gloss black base. So here are my results. This valve cover was in horrible condition. So bad I was wondering if it'd even turn out since there was so much crud just caked on it, even after 2 hours of prep. But I'll let you be the judge, I think it turned out amazing.

When looking at it in just plain lighting, and straight on, it looks just like gloss black(apparent in pic1), but once I turn on the flash, or apply direct light, you see the maroon come out. I'd say I matched the car color very well!

Could you please give some tips on how to get into powdercoating? For example, any sites/forums you frequent that have a lot of info, or a list of the tools you need to get started. Not a how-to, just something so we know where to look first.
