Powder Coating

Just thought I'd throw up some pics of the results of my recent hobby I took up. I made my entire piping setup last year (fmic, intake, exhaust). But all the pipes remained uncoated, so me and a friend decided to pitch in money together and get some equipment so we can powdercoat on our own. Here are the first pieces we've done so far.

First two pics are my upper ic pipe, in Smoke Chrome.

The powder coating looks good(for a DIYer). Just keep practicing on the welding though. Believe me, the old saying "practice makes perfect" is a prime resource for welding.

I feel the same way. you can't always base welding on appearance alone. good job though on the powder coating. And like prplhz96 said, keep practicing.

I'm no pro welder. We have a 110V Hobart MIG that we play with. It was fun. Most the other welds turned out much cleaner, but this one was hard because there wasn't much room to get in there. Here are some of the other welds I did. Still probably not perfect, but better.

Me612, what did you use to bake/heat cure your stuff with? Your house oven?

My plan is to do my valve cover in that as well. I used a curing oven to bake it, not my house oven. Myself and a buddy spent some money for our little setup. I'm not willing to use the same oven I cook my frozen pizza in, to cook my piping!

That's a lot of periods for no reason.

I don't see a face, except for the 2nd pic you can see my reflection of my taking the pic. But I don't see a face in the second WELD picture like you said.

It's pretty easy. You apply the powder, and then take an ever so damp sponge, and run it along the top of the letters to remove the powder.

As far as everyone else wanting me to give them the whole scoop. Info is already out there. Do the research like I did.

That valve cover looks sweet. You should do those in your spare time and sell them on EBAY. Will it mess up the powder coat if you use engine degreaser on it?

Powder Coating is a pretty tough finish. Simple engine degreaser and basic cleaners shouldn't affect the coat. To strip off old finishes, I have to use this hardcore enamel stripper. And I spilt some in my eye the other day, that felt wonderful!

Is it that hard to just give simple instructions or make a how to? You're already doing alot of pieces. It's too easy to tell people to search i guess. Not trying to be a dick, and nice job! Interested in seeing the engine bay when finished

Did my strut tower bar today. It had ugly red brackets, and a scratched to sh*t polished bar. I powdered the brackets chrome, and the bar Chrome Orange. I think it's pretty sweet looking. When you look directly at it, it's a metallic flaky orangish color, but when you look at even a slight angle, it starts getting a silver look to it instead.

Oh and don't mind the old ugly bolt keeping it together. I'm going to snag some nice SS hardware from work tomorrow to put in there instead of that rusty grimy bolt!
