Possibly going to buy used 2g pistons for 1g 6bolt.

Any input on doing this.... Im buying from one of our fellow dsmers in the classifieds.
Im putting them into a 90s 6bolt motor ive been building up... Any take on this, should I do it?'

(I wanted a little more compression and off boost power anyway by the way, thats why I was looking for them in the first place... I dont plan on boosting over 23lbs ever, so this should be a good set up I think? They are just as durable as 1gs right?)

I know id need them machined down and one guy told me he got his done for 50dollars at machine shop... Is there any long term durability issue with having this 2g swap done on 1g since your pretty much fabbing it to work? I dont want to have weird rod problems or anything months later down the line....:dsm:

( Oh 1 more Q whats the difference of putting 2g pistons on 7 bolt 1g, opposed to 6 bolt 1g.. ) Not that Im putting them on a 7 but Theyd fit right up to a 7bolt 1g right?

This modification has been done a thousand times. It's a good cheap upgrade, and a decent alternative to buying new Wiseco, CP, or JE pistions.

No difference. The same machine work applies to both. As long as you are using a 1G crank and 1G big rods, you will need to have the rods machined for the larger wrist pin of the 2G pistons.

ok thanks for the info man... And as far as durability you was saying no difference upon that right? So far im hearing it has more off boost power with these pistons, I dont know about on boost i know theres been speculation in the higher the comp of the pistons, the better the spool and off boost power or something, but I dont know about that.

Oh and are stock 2g pistons 8 or 1
or 8 over 5 compression, i forgot.

I have this done and its a great mod. I gained a little off boost power and a little faster spool but not much. Also they are just as durable as the 1g pistons. Someone I know has dynoed over 400whp and has been running it like that for over a year. When you add boost to the higher compression thats when you get your gains. You will have to machine the rods not the pistons and it will cost between $50-100 depending on who does it. 8.5:1

Durability between OE 1G and 2g pistons? I would say they are equal. Many people are pushing 400 HP out of the stock 2G pistons. And higher compression typically helps across the entire RPM board, both in boost and in vacuum.

2G pistons are 8.5:1.

yea i thought they were something like that...
So in otherwords everytime I add boost and tune it correctly
I will achieve bigger gains with these pistons, than I would have
with the 1g pistons, therefore it will be a gain initially on stock boost
and on increased boost as I understand...

And I dont plan on going too far over 300whp and torque ,thats enough for me
thats why I figured these pistons will do fine. On a stock set up (not that im stock)
but you figure the 1g has 195 hp roughly, and the 2g has 210 stock, is the 15 hp
difference in the 2g because of these pistons or something else?
Because I cant think of much that the 2g has better than the 1g engine wise
except pistons, mass, and exhaust manifold ( and I doubt the manifold flows better enough to add 15extra horse, I just thought that was only better as far as cracking. ) So im thinking these pistons would be good for 10 to 20 hp
for my 1g correct?
