Ok, i am going to try to explain this the best way i can... LOL

When driving, if i am in a curve(not a full turn) there seems to be a clunking sound coming from the passenger side of my engine bay. it only does it when i am not applying throttle, or pressing the brakes. basically it just happens when I am coasting. It had been a small sound, but recently it has gotten much worse. I jacked it up the other day and i shook the axle to see if there is any play in it. There is some play where the axle goes into the transmission. any help? quick responses would be great, as i am planning on fixing this in 2 days, and i dont want to replace something if its not broken. thanks!

Go to an open parking lot and turn your wheel all the way. Put the car in reverse and start backing up while the wheel is turned. I you hear clicking/clunking it's most likely your cv joint.

not to call your ahole, and raise you a dbag, but its a specific noise i was explaining, one of which i didnt see in any searches i did before....

Bud92gsx is right, DSM have been around for so long that most of the problems have appeared and been resolved, not only that the results and solutions have been recorded here on this website.

you are going to learn quickly people can not help you very much with just an explanation of the noise, people describe noises differently and maybe not accurately all the time. Your best bet is the record the sound for us, even thought that's not always possible.

the weird thing is that you usually hear clucking front CV axles when you are turning. I say replace the axle and be done, they take about 20 min (maybe less, I did both in 11 min one time).

goodluck

wow! proof read LOL. By huge screw driver, he means use a pry bar. Its better suited for the application.

Haha you guys are a trip.

Anyway, thanks for the responses. I am going to replace the axle Thursday and hope for the best. Also doing the tie rod ends while I'm down there.

As for tools, I'm on our local rescue squad, so I've got a 130 psi air wrench, halagan bar for prying, I should be ok! Again thanks for your help guys.

well that was the biggest fail ever.... the axle nut is so rusted, its welded on. i hit it with PB, air wrench, heat... nothing. i managed to get my tie rod end replaced in 5 minutes though...

any ideas? im probably taking it to a shop tomorrow...

After the drive home, after replacing the tie rod end, it is determined that it wasnt the axle, but the TRE. success!
