I am a new owner of a 1997 eclipse gst as of last week, I also own a 2007 eclipse gs but i am getting rid of it. Anyways i went to check this car out and the guy told me it needed a coil pack and it is still driveable, well i went and test drove the car it had no power so i figured it was a coil pack it would slowly build boost and the bov would go off. Then the car would like kick into full power sometimes and then cut and have no power again. After the test drive i told him ill come get it next week and a few days later he said he drove it down the road and the car lost all power, so i ended up getting it dirt cheap now i got it home and i started it up and it idels fine but as soon as i rev the car the engine cuts and wont turnover but cranks after the first time then if you wait alittle it will start fine again, any ideas what might be the problem. :confused:

okay I'm thinking it has to do with the tune he has on it. Check your plugs they could be fouled out. If the car hasn't been tuned it will cut out severely because the car wont know what to do with the amount of air it is getting (fuel to air ration) is basically what they do when they tune the car along with other things. Also check your maf and make sure it is on good and tight. not loose or has a shitty connection. Another thing to check is the timing. Also what's it boosting at because to much boost and not big enough injectors can give you a boost cut. If I where you id see what its boosting at and then check the spark plugs. let me know on your progress
 
When you say cut power do you mean electronically or like no power engine wise while driving?

Check your plugs and if they are black then you are running extremely rich.. What are the known mods to the car?
 
GsXdSmKingGsX- its more of power lose to the engine, its not like boost cutting.


Im trying to get the car running right now, when i start it the car idles fine but as soon as i press the gas the motor turns off and then wont turn over unless i let it sit for a few min.

i couldnt imagine what it could be, vac leak, the tdc could be wrong and need to adjust it or a coil pack guy said he put new wires and plugs havent checked them yet car is sitting at my friends cause he has all the tools and a lift i need.
