Can anyone tell me the pros and cons of the 2g 96 GSX i recently bought one and want to be ready for anyproblems........any help will be greatly appreciatted.....im new to the Mitzu world......thanks

You just made a huge mistake, these cars are junk and the 96 is actually the worst year for dsms. Do a search on here for 1996.

Just joking. Congrats. No pros and cons to a specific year really that you would be interested in at this point. Just do maintenance, free mods and start enjoying the car. Buy yourself a toolbox if you don't have one so you can do lil stuff (free mods).

LOL my screen actually didn't get that last part. I was like daaaaamn. ROFL

Well, if that 96 of yours has over 70XXX miles, I'd personally recommend (if you don't know if the previous owner did or not) a full tune-up, timing belt, water pump, and balance shaft belt change. The last thing you need is for that thing to go.

yes maintenence. dont miss anything. make sure it runs perfect before you do anymods.
check all the major grounds for contamination. clean as many as you can.

Maintenence should be first regardless what the prior owner may have told you.

- New Oem Mitsu Tbelt, Tensionor, Tensionor Pulley etc..etc..
- New Oem Mitsu Water Pump
- Remove the balance shafts
- Mitsu Multi-Layer Headgasket or Felpro depending on hp
- ARP Headstuds
- WIC's Oil Filter
- Fresh Oil

Also your gonna wanna get a upper and lower Oem Mitsu Engine Gasket kit. Make sure you also order a rear main seal and cam seals cause IIRC they don't come in the Engine Gasket Kit.

the first thing to do is get a tune up. i agree. i did with my gsx when i got it....only because it ran like crap. after the tune up....... it was running like a champ. from there start modding.

congrats bro i just bought a 95 gsx on tuesday

prepare to turn from the every day person to an all out dsm alley mechanic/ grease monkey!ROFL and remember dsm stands for DONT-STOP-MAINTAING!! :nono::p welcome aboard! and this is the best dsm community forum alive!!!:thumb::dsm::dsm:

Welcome aboard, im a newbie to DSM as well, bought a 95 tsi, one thing that ive learned in this forum is to READ alot till your eyes bleed LOL.. :sneaky: have fun and like eveyrone said, maintenance first.

congrats like everyones said preventive maintenance first! you will thank yourself later plus do as much research as possible the more you know the better you will approach things, try not to cut corners on replairs and oem is the way to go on most parts such as timing belt and all..good luck these are great cars if you take care of them the right way

Congrats on your purchase. I'm sure it will be a life-changing event, as it was for most of the people here.

Please feel free to use the tools here. They are at your disposal, they are free, and they are extensive. They include, but are not limited to:

1. The SEARCH function. If you have a question, it's already been asked and answered several times. You have only to search for it. If by some miracle you don't find the answer, then ask your question.

2. The tech articles, FAQ threads, and staged upgrades pages. These pages are the bread and butter of everything you need to know to get started. What spark plugs should you use? There's a FAQ for it here. What are the first modifications you should do? It's spelled out in the staged upgrades section to get you started. What do BISS, TPS, BLT, CAS, MAF, etc. stand for? The list of acronyms are here in the FAQ pages as well, and you'll need to know these terms to be fluent in this community.

3. Thousands upon thousands of members, all with differing knowledge levels and experience. We have people who know nothing about cars, we have shade-tree mechanics, we have certified technicians, and we have dedicated racers and car builders. We also have everything in between. For every question you ask, you may get a million different answers, and there may be no clear answer for your problem, but that's not always a bad thing. It just gives you more to research. We have DSM-specific vendors here that sell products that can help you achieve your goals. Feel free to ask them your questions and get their input on how you should proceed.

Welcome to the DSM community. We hope you enjoy your experience.
