Piston rings

Any tips on putting my rings on my pistons?The old ones broke when I tried to walk them out of the pistons and I'm afraid of breaking a new one when I'm installing them?

hit a decent parts store and for $10 or less get a pair of piston ring expanders.

Use the proper tool for the job, otherwise things can break like you found out.

Thanks.I'm just getting everything ready that I need for the assembly.Thought there might have been another way that alot of people use.But I'll use the recommended tools.

eh.. never used that tool

Always just been real careful to have one end on the groove and slowly/carefully wrap the other end of the ring around the piston...

Although i have broken a ring or two in the past... but usually when taking them off

when you sprial them on you stand a chance of warping the ring.. the tool is cheap enough to buy and use just one time... $5.00
