I'm swapping my tranny and replacing the clutch and putting in a lightweigh flywheel. Here's some of the pictures of what's happening, I will create a page with tons more pictures when I'm done (flywheel gets here in 2 days :((

I wanted to do this page on dsmtalk.com, but moderator "1fastchick" there banned me because she thinks my post about double clutching is "too rice", so I guess I'll be doing it here. *** post edited for flaming another site ***

Not at all, just a lot of yanking. Also we didn't pop the driver-side axle beforehand, so I had to be under the car with 2 flatheads while my friend was yanking the tranny over my head supported with a cherry picker :)

The hardest thing of all was popping the ball joints on the lower control arms, those things are a bi***.

why'd you have to pop the ball joints? can't you just unbolt the control arms from the frame? I've taken out axles like that before.

Just curious as to why you "popped" the ball-joints (and risk tearing the boot) instead of just disconnecting the lower control arm and lateral arm attachment points at the sub-frame?

Or are you talking about changing the ball-joints? If so, undoubtedly yes, they suck.

edit: At least I'm not the only one..................

Because it was my friend's task and he's a honda expert and he didn't know those arms could be dicsonnected. But then again neither did I. Only today I found out from a friend of mine that you could do that.

Yea I popped mine out also like an idiot and screwed both my ball joints. Learn from our mistakes.

Why they ban you for that man. Sucks. Its nice to double clutch the tranny, it lines up the synchros for a clean shift. Unless you guys where talking about the fake slam the clutch in while WOT double clutch. Which does nothing and just kills the tranny.

I actually didn't mess up the ball joints while popping them.

As for double clutching, all I was saying was that I like to double clutch while going from 5th to 2nd when engine breaking down a steep hill, and then the "mega mod" showed up calling me a ricer and banning me for that. #### that shit.

You guys take the lower control arms off to drop a tranny? Is that a 2g thing or something? I did my 1g tranny last week and didn't have to drop the control arms? I just took the strut bolts out so I could get the axles out of the way and just dropped the trans down under the car. It only took like an hour and a half to get it out.

yeah it's a 2g thing, the 1g suspension is way different, to get the axles out of a 2g there's an upper control arm which you have to detach from the strut mount (easy way) or pop the ball joint (hard way) and 2 lower control arms.. which can also be removed the easy way or the hard way.. you can actually get the axle out by only removing the rear (lateral?) control arm.. the center (compression arm I think?) doesn't need to be taken off the frame... but it's probably just easier to do so anyway.. I never bothered and it was a bit of a pain to get the axle out, but it did come out.

I did almost like you. new clutch, lightweight flywheel and a LSD insert all at the same time. You learn a lot! Good luck!!

Jim, I'm curious to see which ball-joint replacements you would recommend. I would assume that you are recommending OEM replacements, but perhaps you have some aftermarket manufacturer in mind?

I'm not sure I would even trust OEM ones with the recalls and what not...They're probably fixed now, but who knows.
