The thread says they are pushing for Morgan Hill, as they have plenty of room, and could use the estimated $17+K of revenue per month it would bring to the city. I think thats awesome...a 10-15 minute drive down 101 for some legal racing? I love the street but would pay the $$ for a local track any day.

If I'm not mistaken there was also a sprint car track in San Jose about 15 years ago. IIRC it was shut down due to complaints from local neighborhoods about the noise from the cars. And it was LOUD - I could hear them running at night from a few miles off when I was in school well enough to have trouble going to sleep. Those types of complaints are what will keep a track at bay moreso than any other "lack of pavement" excuse.

I do agree though that the abandoned base in Alameda would be a good place for a semi-permanent installation. Mazda Rev-it-up auto-crosses were held there and there is no residential area even remotely near. Moffet Field on the otherhand is still an actively used airbase, so that would never fly, so to speak.

It would be nice to have at least a 1/4 mile strip that's cheap and even free to run for certain events, etc to reduce the street racing activity which is dangerous. Kids are killing people on the streets... :notgood:

Unfortunately guys, Morgan Hill is full of "green-minded" people who have been fighting a planned Cisco campus for years. They don't care about the jobs or revenue as much as they do the environment. And they are strict about building, only allowing a certain number of new homes to be built per year. There is plenty of space out there, but the land is extremely expensive and you'd have the same problems the old Santa Clara county fairgrounds had (noise complaints with the sprint car races).

Even with all the open space, there isn't anywhere in Morgan Hill you could build without homes being close by. People move out in the open areas for peace and quiet, not to see a track get built right next to them. You think they wouldn't fight it all the way? Morgan Hill is also full of conservative decision makers (it's said to be a Mormon-run town), so I can imagine what the arguments would be going against a track - drugs, drinking, fighting, street racing, accidents, gang activity, etc. We have the F&F to thank for the not-so-nice image painted in everyones' mind these days.

Unfortunately, with the cost and demand of real estate around here, the only place I see a track being built is out in the central valley or in an abandoned location like an old airport. Morgan Hill wouldn't appear to be a viable option.

You know that will probably bankrupt mitsu right? I do think It would be nice but I don't think your gonna see it happen.

It would be nice to see a sweet RWD model from mitsu but thats expensive too, but I would defintately get a loan for one that has the 4g63 mounted longditudily.

Oh well, Mitsu needs to get off their buts, and really think about a car like the SRT-4, fast and cheap, it would sell so fast.

Since you guys are signing that, can you sign the bring back the 7 petition too?

Nascar isn't that bad that we need to petition over it. Some people take things to far.

Hell yea! Its about damn time. I signed it and would really like to see it take effect.

Honestly I think I have signed like 2 or 3 of these petitions in the past. I don't think Speed channel really cares since Nascar makes so much money.

Well that's your opinion... I used to like Speed TV when they had some variety.

Of course, with that said, it's all about the money and there are more Nascar fans in the U.S. than any other sport (I don't understand why though), so I doubt any online petition would do anything, and doubt any ever has.

While I can't stand Nascar & think it's boring as hell (Even though I'm from Indiana), I can respect their skills. Lets see you guys do a 200 mph spinout then recover from it.

why the hell would the do less nascar? they get more ratings from nascar re-runs than any other event, its simple. america likes nascar. its an american sport. get over it. itd be like telling NBC, CBS and FOX to drop footbal on sundays for Soccer or Hockey.

Petitiononline is nothing but a pudwank. Save your typing.

I'm a bit pissed at SPEED for not running WRC and the Paris-Dakar. They were much better as Speedvision. And what's with the crap movies they run to fill time? Can't get enough free propaganda from the manufacturers to broadcast?
