Since precision no longer offers the dragon series, who is everyone using for their performance torque converter rebuilds/restalls now?

Yep, the new owners dropped this converter from their line up, not coming back. This had a good 20 year run, sad. Jeff Bush dropped the install kit for the 1g swap option and maybe that just put the nail in the coffin on overall sales but it's gone.

Circle D bailed too, I'm in the same boat, looking for something for my new combo, damn.

Ya, kicking myself in the ass for not buying a converter when I first contacted them years ago. I think IPT is the only real option left.

Restalls aren't horrible, John is the most solid and long term dependable Dsm auto vendor we got so at least he's around to help.

With faster spooling turbos every 4-5 years by.. (Garrett/Comp/Apex/Borg/Pte) it's only getting better, you could get away with brake torquing restalls better today than in 2005. The slippage isn't great but 0 in one hand vs restall in the other is better than nothing.

If I get my auto cars trans mainshaft replaced, I'm just going to run a 75-100 shot of NOS with my stock converter. Some are afraid of NOS, but hell I've been using it since 1982.
+2 on John at IPT :thumb:

Thanks Frank!!! I forgot about the Florida shop. I bought their last 1g front pump 4 or so years ago.

Please update us all on Florida converters, this is just a restall at $700, nothing else?

Circle D isn't pulling through, I talked with them like 1 month ago, not in the cards, too many other priorities to get it up and running. Even a $3000 converter that had like 25 initial buys (desposits) couldn't get off and running, wow.

I’m not sure “Exactly” what all they’ll do, the gentlemen I spoke with today said they’ll call me once they receive it, which should be next Monday, on their website they list general information based on whether it’s a street/strip rebuild or full race car. I’m not sure how much magic they’ll work on the 1g converter specifically, I simply requested a 4000rpm re stall, gave them general info like my turbo size and engine displacement, I’m hoping to having a more in depth conversation with them once they have my converter, I’ll keep this thread updated with anything I find out:thumb: And let’s not forget Eric Whistler, I think is his name, re set the Dsm stock block record on a stock converter supposedly:)

I talked to Florida Torque Converter last week also. Was quoted $800-$900 for a restall, but they said they should be able to do a 4500 rpm stall while using a 64mm turbo w/o nitrous. We will prob send ours out this week also and hope for the best.
The car has a ipt restall at the moment, but will only stall to @ 2300rpm. The 75 shot gets it to 4200 2 step pretty quick. After raising the 2 step to 4500 last week, I believe we broke something in the converter.

Probably broke the stator, probably lugs real low now and won't really move.

Do a log at the track etc, then converter slippage.

I'd suspect something like this on a moderate modded restall stator.....

Rpm 7900
Tire 26
Rear gear (awd final) 4.42
Trans 1
Mph 128
Slippage 8%

On a heavily modded stator probably 12% slippage and on a butchered one easily 15%+.

The stock converter I think others showed on the boards like 4-5% slippage depending on power, trans temp and fluid.

I just saw that Aaron (NTRR) was still using his test Circle D one and had sent Jake (Evil Eagle) one as well to test so I guess I still had hopes that this would still happened. I text Pete and he said the project is on an indefinite pause. That is a bummer.

I have a buddy that was in on that order, but hasn't received his yet either. And I believe there was only a limited number made and I don't think they will be offered anymore. Hopefully I'm wrong...

Thanks for that inside scoop Josh, didn't know they even made any let alone 2 that are getting tested. That was an Opel like design they said so that means around 8.75 - 9" turbine, great for us 2.0L guys. $3k is rough but it's probably a killer product if they ever do a full release and happy with the results.

Owning 2 other different auto platforms with PTC converters that are excellent, the converters are vital.

Sent out a bunch of emails since hearing Precision left, there might be a 2026 1g 2g converter that's back for us and save the day.

Let's pray we're not left in the dust and these converters happen for us all.

Yes let's hope someone has an offering. Think for now I'm just going to focus on everything else and just run the stock converter.

So quick update, my converter is on its way back from Florida Torque Converter, $870 out the door. This was for a 4000rpm stall on a stock 1g converter. I only briefly spoke with them over the phone after calling them, they asked if it was a race car or street car in regards to the sprag, I explained 100% street car so the sprag stays LOL, anyways I hope to have it by this weekend:thumb:

I'm just curious, is there a reason you guys don't want an IPT restall or seem to be shying away from John/IPT? I've had two IPT converters, one on a 1G and one on my old blue 2G Talon and I loved them. No complaints.

Then again I've never had a billet/custom converter like a PI model or etc, so I have zero other basis for comparison. Just scientific curiosity. Not calling anyone out or out here trying to defend anyone's honor.

I’m not shying away per se, I just spent $1,000 with ipt for my rebuild kit LOL, was going to go with them for a re stall as well but thought I’d give Florida a try, I may yet still send John my diff to be welded, but Aaron Gregory’s closer:)

What turbo are u going to be running?
2.0 or 2.3?
They should have the converter I sent in today. Hoping to get a 4200-4500 stall with the 6466, but I'm not sure if that's gonna happen on the 2.0

I’m on a gen2 6266, 2.0, which I explained over the phone to them, I won’t have any results until next spring/summer, I’m hoping it stalls decent, I really have no plans for nitrous because this is just a fair weather toy. I’ve considered side stepping to something like a 6062 maybe down the road, I went auto to get away from 5 spd headaches LOL, I’m not set on any specific 60ft/et. If the car goes 10’s at the track I’d be happy :thumb:

Nice.
We tried hughs, and ipt restalls and neither would go above 2500 rpm without nitrous. We were launching @ 4200 rpm/ 18psi and the car was still sluggish till @ 100ft out. Turned the 2step up to 4500rpm and I believe something in the converter broke. So we decided to give Florida converter a try. If it doesn't stall up without nitrous, i guess we are out of options.
I do have a Jeff Bush/Precision setup here, but i had planned on using it for another car.
But, if the Florida converter works, I'll prob sale the JB/Precision kit.

This is from about 7 years ago. ✌️

Guys hate to burst your bubble but read post 23, Awd4g63 is exactly what I've seen on these cars, then slippage up top can get brutal if they chop away a ton of stator.

Report back after you get some miles and some brake torque launches.
