Hi everybody my hatch has a big rust spot so I'm changing it. I got a spare hatch but its white and my car is Barcelona red pearl metalic my neighbor is painting it for me I got a can of clear coat and sandpaper but my main concern is how much paint do I need to paint the trunk not including the spoiler it has paint already the auto body place says they think I can get away with a 8oz bottle they can make my paint color in that battle but I dont know if that will be enough I hope it is the trunk on the eclipse are pretty small

Im assuming you mean trunk, and you put your "number" is painting it for you: I'm not sure what that means!!

BUT I rattle canned a dsm before and I did pretty much a whole quarter panel with 1 can and had some left. If you paint the hatch 1 can should be more than enough for a few coats. Just prep it properly, and then wait for it to dry between coats. With the clear you have to put it on LIGHTLY in a number of coats, not just 1 big one, or its going to have run marks for days... after it dries for a day, wet sand the clear with 1000 and 2000 grit paper, then buff it and noone will know it was from a can!

But the prep is the MOST impt step. Are you sanding down to the metal or just scuffing the existing paint?

Sorry for the spelling error I meant neighbor haha

I think he is sanding down to the metal

Yea, but sometimes painting ontop of paint with a medium good prep job will cause bubbles or flaking after a few mths. Im assuming he was going to put primer down too. Thatd be like 7 layers of paint / primer if he laid it ontop of the stock paint. Lol

C'mon man, at least TRY to use a period once and a while. Punctuation saves lives. :thumb:

Key words there are "prep work" not the paint or primer itself. One of the best things you can do is paint over your factory stuff if it is not faded completely or flaking itself.

If your changing the color, just scuff, 1-2 primer/sealer coats, and then base and clear.

I don't know where your getting your info from?
