Hi, I just got my first car, a 95 Eagle Talon. I got it for dirt cheap, but it has a bunch of minor problems that need fixed. This weekends project is fixing the leak in the trunk. To begin with, the previous owner had removed the rear windshield wipers, and never patched the hole that it left. He also had installed an aftermarket spoiler that looked like complete crap, so I took it off. I patched all the holes up with bondo, and I don't think that they are the cause of the leaking trunk. I am almost positive that the problem is the black rubber seal thing. I'm pretty sure that it's called weatherstripping but I'm not completely sure. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Thanks a lot. I contacted him, and I am going to buy some new weatherstripping next friday when I get payed. I will let you all know if it fixes the problem!

Also check to see if the tail light gaskets are sealing properly. Take little panels off from inside the car. Then take some water and pour enough in the drip rails that it forces some water to run down the drain in the gasket at the tail light. If you look closely, there are little crescent shapes cut from the seal where the tail light meets the drip rail. Water should run out that hole and around the tail light, back behind the rear bumper, and onto the ground.

Mine were shot and leaking. Any time it rained, water would run into the trunk from there. The gaskets have been discontinued. So I went to a junk yard, pulled a second set, and double stacked them. Problem solved.

Check the drain holes. Right below where the hatch struts mount there are holes if the holes are blocked water will leak into the trunk. Use a hanger or long wire and clean out the holes. You should be able to pour water in the holes and it should come out under the car.

I will take a look at the tail lights and the drain holes when I get home from school later. I noticed that there was some water inside the tail light. Could this have to do with a bad seal?

Yes that could have to do with a bad seal, also you may want to check the body seams above the tail lights you may not beable to see a break but that is one way you could get water in your trunk. thats where mine was coming in from and some seam sealer will fix that for you or you could use jb weld if thats one of your issues
