WTFso this is my story

my fuel pump hanger is worped, 3 studs are broken
everytime i boost or drive there is a heavy smell of gaz, know i can see gas in the back trunk and on the fuel pump housing

what to do? the housing itself its worped can i fix it? and then use jb weld and new studs to hold it in place ????

or do i need a new fuel pump housing

i would NEVER jb weld something as important as fuel stuff. Replace it don't be cheap unless you want to die.

wERE EM I GOING TO GET A FUEL HOUSING I CANT FIND ANYTING HERE IN CANADA FOR THIS CAR

Let me know if you guys have one

thanks

your just talking about the pump hanger for inside the tank right?

or you can go to a junk yard and find a replacement stock, or go to the dealer.

most aftermarket are for dual pumps. so id stick with dealership or junk yard if your looking for an OEM replacement.

ive seen your dsm all over google for some reason, best cleanest looking 1g i have seen in a while.

Edit: Your avatar isnt your dsm is it.... if its not you need to put yours up its against site regulations (just speculating on your profile posted pix of a red 1g)

with all your mods im surprised you are even posting this thread LOL

You obviously don't understand how the 1g fuel tank and sending unit are set up. The only way to fix the broken studs is to drill the old ones out and put bolts thru the holes with jb weld holding them in place. The jb weld doesn't hold anything together, it holds the bolt from falling in the tank when you are assembling the sending unit to the tank. That is the only way of fixing the 1g awd tank short of welding the bolt in place which is obviously a very bad idea. This is a very common fix for this.

correct, i dont know much about how the fuel hanger works in the 1g, but when i hear leaking gas, and JB weld, im thinkin hes trying to JB weld the leak to seal. that just doesnt sound like a quality fix to me. but he can do what you sugguested. ill keep my nose out of 1g threads.

The jb weld is not holding the sending unit to the the tank. The sending unit is held in place by bolts that go thru holes in the tank and into the sending unit with nuts on them. The jb weld is just to hold the bolt from falling back thru the hole when you are installing the sending unit. Here is a write up on it. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-engine-fuel/256249-replacing-broken-fuel-pump-studs.html .

ok guys i do understand im just affraid for my life here

i have 3 options

fixing the studs ( dsm tuners instructions) the only problem i have the stupid flange is worped
so i will need a new flange all together

get a gaz tank ( mine is old ) and a new flange

what do you guys tink

Welding them in would be a lot more fun for someone watching from a distance. :D

Ive welded a tank b4. Just drained as much possible and got the rest with brake cleaner. Drying it out by using a blow nossle on an air line. And blowing fresh air into for 15 min and washing it out with water.

If your still afraid to do it after that just do the above and then fill the tank with water and you'll be fine. Dont want to do this? Do as bryan said. Only way to fix it short of welding or buying another tank.

Not sure, how, different the fwd, and awd, tanks are on the 1g but short of awd only parts I can probably most anything for your car.

wow yeah thats MUCH different then the 2g plastic screw on. imagine JBwelding the 2g fuel hanger.. thats why i thought it = sketchballism
can you get the broken studs out? are they really studs? or bolts that come from the bottom up?

studs and yes there broken

can i just straighten the flange , drill and add 3 new studs and use oem gasket or rtv to seel it to the tank ?

Sounds good to me. I suggested using that tough black windshield glue because its really good at sealing things. THEY USE IT ON WINDSHIELDS LOL, i know bryanwheat was against in the last thread but that sh i t is tough and works great as a gasket. He has alot of posts though and seems to know best. Just do it right however you do it.

I would deff start with straightening the flange, and using the oem gasket first. You dont want to use a sealer to seal it if you dont have to.

Reason for not using windshield sealer is its designed to seal out wind not seal in gas. I would not think it would hold up well against gas.

What I did when I fixed my studs was identical to bryanwheat posted expect I drilled the holes smaller, and tapped them. This stopped me from needing the jb weld and if you get the bolt tight enough nothing loosens as you tighten the nylon lock nut.

Zero
