painting transmission

alright so I'm going to be painting the trans for my gsx project and was wondering what other people have done. On my GST I used just some high temp silver and clear, but it hasn't held up that great. I'm wondering if an automotive paint like stuff you would use on the exterior of the car would be better along with a good clear? Also what is everyone doing to prep the trans or even a motor for paint? I know Turbosax2 sandblasted his trans, I'm not sure if I trust myself to do that

I have heard that automotive paint holds up great in an engine bay. Prep is key.

All I did was clean it with some parts washing fluid then painted it with regular rustoleum gloss black...

Do what I WILL do and just get it sand blasted.
