Painting A FMIC Flat Black intercooler paint ic [Merged 12-6]

Interesting... So, possibly like a high temperature BBQ grill paint? I know grill paint isn't totally attractive though considering the colors I have seen. That was only Walmart though so who knows what colors are actually out there.

I dunno - I still think the anondized is the way to go - because its still the raw metal - not paint. I'm starting to think of this in the same terms you think of CPU heatsinks for your computer - the ultimate FMIC would be one that's the most heat-conductive. If it wouldn't be so damn heavy, an all-copper FMIC would be the way to go... but barring that, Aluminum would probably do better than steel...

If I can ever afford an FMIC. Wait, let me start again, if my DSM ever runs again and I can afford an FMIC, it will be anodized. And to whoever said to just put a little paint on so it's not as noticeable. If you aren't going to hide it completely for the sleeper effcct, strut that shit. :laugh:

Painted is going to hurt cooling abilities. Now if you can get someone to actually anodize your intercooler black, that would be bad ass. Find some anodizing companies and see about pricing.

Its anodized. The owner of the WRX is an aquaitance of mine.

A light coat of paint won't harm it very much. Now, 8 coats of POR 15 will certainly have an effect!

Quick question, if i was to paint my radiator for instance with silver engine enamel for example, would that effect the performance of my cooling? would it run hotter?

Yes.

Do you ever see radiators painted silver? Or with enamel? Unless it's prone to corrosion, don't paint a radiator.

The black isnt as great as it used to be, no i dont care about the intercooler look just like the aluminum color. fluidyne radiators are mirror finish, would they reflect heat more? maybe this was a crappy idea

youll have to wait a while for the pics on the car. its COMPLETELY apart right now getting alot dont to it. it only cost me $85 to do it but that was a one time intro fee. i can get other things done now for only $40 a pop (4 parts per dip max. next im getting the throttle body elbow, fuel rail, and my fluidyne radiator done. i think black stuff underhood is cool. the reason i did this is because every year they have a thing here in reno called "Hot August Nights". theres ALOT of street racing for big $$$$. my buddy cleaned up last year but got turned down for a couple of races cause the guys saw his front mount. i figure it will just look like a O.E. radiator to the untrained eye :laugh:

it wont be as blck as the intercooler more of a dark grey but it will work. i had them do a test on some old stuff while they dipped the intercooler. it looks pretty cool. not as dark as i would like but cool nonetheless.
