Painting A FMIC Flat Black intercooler paint ic [Merged 12-6]

I just purchased a ebay FMIC but i was thinking of doing the stealth look on my car and i was thinking of powdercoating it black instead of leaving it aluminum color... i have the gun to powder coat...so it would be very easy. Do you guys think that it would affect performance? or should i just leave it shiny?

Powdercoating it will make it retain heat more, so it will effect its cooling capabilites. The hotter it is= the hotter the air is.

Also, it could get crap inbetween fins.
spraypaint is your best bet.

You should use a radiator paint or coating. Some radiator repair shops have it. I believe it's thinner, possibly water based, it won't adversely affect the cooling properties of your intercooler.

They do actually make a coating for intercoolers that improve the heat transfer. I'm not sure where I saw it at, I'll try to find it.

Either have it anodized, or get some radiator paint and use that if you aren't looking to spend that much money.

As far as i know theres no test or anything if it does, but its just a coat just like the ones where they spray the names on, the fins do dont get effected by the coat at all.

I would definately be affraid of it clogging up fins, at least a thin coat of paint wouldnt affect it in that way. Anodizing would be sweet though it could get pricey

I anodized mine! I have a buddy who works at a anodizing company.......$0 FTW!! You can see the before look in my avatar.

...and cause I know someone will ask......the bumper is done in Line-X bediner.
