It's the HRC FMIC. Nice core, but the piping isn't optimal. However, being in CA I wanted something that would follow the same path as the stock piping in an attempt to appear stock. HRC's kit had everything I needed. :) Works just fine for me, but I'd still prefer a short route setup if I didn't have to worry about the visual aspect of things come smog time.

Whats up man. I actually have not met you before because I have not gone to any of the meets around here... Theres meets here???

I am going to go ahead and paint my intercooler, its the 2g ssautochrome short route kit that a lot of the 2g guys bought a while back. I liked the kit soo much that I made it fit on my 1g. It should work well with the new t3 setup.

Just one more vote for the anodizing. :thumb:
Sleeper effect, doesn't chip like paint, and definately makes the fins tougher.

Becareful having ebay IC's / Treadstone anodized (not like the Griffin core I posted above). I tryed one and with the fantastic Chinese brazing process, there was a lot of contamination that didn't allow the dye to take. :notgood:

Some types of paint will actually improve heat transfer.

like radiator paint...

some cars have radiators in silver, some are black..

painting it wont affect it in anyway (worsen)

i painted mine and i love it!

this thread: :beatentodeath:

cmon guys ,this is an easy decision .. or do you wonder around Wal-Mart contemplating wether to get Pepsi or Coke???? jeez...

I've heard of people anodizing them, but that's supposed to be the most expensive method. I suppose a really light dusting of any old paing would do.

Paint shouldn't affect the flow, but it could affect the cooling ability. If you throw enough paint on to clog up the fins on the outside of an intercooler, you have no business ever picking up a rattlecan again. However, you could debate that the light coating of paint on the aluminum keeps the air flowing over it from transferring the heat fully.

You be the judge. If I get a FMIC, it's going to be anodized.

A million posts later and people still think that a layer or two of paint is going to affect efficiency. Jebus.

" Oh no, my gigasmic 34x12x4 intercooler just dropped from 85% efficiency to 84.89999% efficiency. Let me go tell everyone on tuners not do to it! "

ugh. /end rant

^^ And a simple method to help with efficiency that people (and companies alike) still don't do is adding in flow dividers. It amazes me. :toobad:

Which scheme do you like better? Painted black or plain aluminum? Please lets not get into the paint versus efficiency thing .. this is strictly which color scheme do you thing is better on my car?

Dark Painted Version (I may paint a faint red mitsu diamond in the center)

Dark looks better, but to do it right, get it anodized black instead. It really isn't all that expensive, all things considered. You won't get as much heatsoak, or catch as much crap from performance guys. It'll also look a lot better than some rattlecan job, and won't start to flake off down the road, or chip and leave a shiny aluminum bit peeking through when you catch a rock. Which will REALLY start to look crappy after a while, even if you touch it up.

Dark looks better on your car, some red cars I like the bare aluminum but im gonna say go dark... Ideally I would say anodize if its a show car, but logically just spray it, its more economical. Spend the money on something worth it, like beer.
