Well one way to get rid of overspray is to mask off the areas that you dont want paint on! I like the idea just think that powder coating is much more effective. Just my .02 though.

Yea i know that, but what if there is already overspray?? Is there some special liquid or something to get rid of the overspray?

I did take valve cover off, we cleaned it and degreased it.

Yea i didnt like how the sparkplug cover came out, I might just buy one of those aluminum ones. So how do I get rid of overspray?

Also Day 4 and still good :) Lets see how long it lasts

Why didnt you paint it while it was off? Why is there overspray then?

If you take the valve cover off to redo it, just use high-temp chrome paint and it'll be fine. Also, for the letters you can do them with a fine tip brush, just spray some high temp black paint in a cup and there ya go! Just be super super careful when you do it.
I would also paint the spark plug cover piece and the oil cap again. I see it all the time...a really nicely painted valve cover with a dirty oil cap. Kinda ruins the look, you know?

I did paint it while it was off, but then when we put it on, it got smuged a bit on a side and my uncle put another coat on and it got overspray on the heatshield, so he was like might as well paint it, then it got overspray on those other parts, and it was impossible to fix it LOL, that why im wondering how to get rid of that???

Also should I repaint with high temp chrome paint before it chips off? Or should I just wait? Or does it even matter?

Thanks for criticism :)

Not to sound like an ass, but imo, this is kind of a hack job.Its gonna look like crap real soon not to mention the way you guys painted it.Dont let your uncle touch your car parts.Remove them and powder coat them, the right way.

alright ill do that, soon. Ill tell my uncle about the crap job and to fix it. What should I do about the overspray on some of the parts it got on?

umm I would say that you might as well leave it, it will fade off eventually. But paint thinner would probably take it off but I wouldnt bother if I were you.

I like the way the valve cover looks. On the overspray, you could use paint thinner on a few things but some stuff may be a pain. Unless you do car shows, I wouldn't worry too much about it. You will probably upgrade some of the stuff late anyway.

i like it a lot.... nothing ricey about it, its sleek and really is just an attention grabber i like it a lot with everything else black. good job

Looks good to me, didnt' notice the overspray until the others pointed it out. But shit get the high temp paint and redo it comes off. 3 bucks a can.

ok thanks for the input guys. So far day 5 and still clean :)

I finally got some time to redo the job. Ok so I plan on buying Paint Thinner and High Temp Paint. Do I just go to Advanced Auto Parts and ask for Chrome High Temp Paint and Paint thinner?

Also how do you polish?

Looks good besides the overspray. You know I painted my heatshield a long time ago and it still looks pretty damn new, no flaking whatsoever. Then again I did use 1200 degree engine enamel though.

I really need to re-do my valve cover, it looked really clean before, but oil accumulated in the spark plug area and there is a whole bunch of dirt and grit everywhere. I think I'm going to keep my engine bay clean and simple, I have a red-top battery so I'm thinking I'll repaint the vc a textured black w/ polished letters and get some magnecore wires.

Well its been a while, I put up new engine photos in gallery. Paint is still on there. I still want to powdercoat the valve cover though. It seems overspray fading away on some things, but I also did some modding since then. Let me know what you guys think.

I have an idea. It would either rock or look like crap.

Paint the big letters red outlined in black. It will take some time and either a steady hand or some masking, but I think it could look wicked. It would make the letters jump out and match the plug wires. The small "2000" and the others raised lines could be painted black.
