I've seen a few and want to know how they are done, I talked to trgcoating.com and he said that powdercoating is not an option for this look, Polishing is that the only option and does it look as good, because i've seen polish jobs that look all faded.

They said it would not look like chrome, but rather silver

I'm surprised to hear that from a coater. There's been very-close-to-chrome powder finish available for a few years now. It comes out pretty nice, from what I've seen.

Do you have the name of the color? because reflective chrome he said is pretty much silver. Do you think I would be better off polishing it and running a coat of clear over it?

if this isn't almost chrome, i don't know what is?! get some diff chrome powders from eastwoodco and columbia coatings spray a small sample and pick what you like

See, and I like the "feel" of that finish more than real chrome. I guess I was affected by all that trim crap JC Whitney used to sell for VWs.

Anyone know how well it lasts on the heatshield?

i would imagine it would change to a yellowish hue after a while, thats what my jmf heat shield did...

but still the reality is, that powder coating is fairly well priced for what you get...so if it does change over a period of time, just re-powder the SOB and your back to a new heatshield...

still i question the clear powder...some ppl do, some don't...me personally i would think it would help bring out the shine that chrome has...i believe my powder coater used a similar chrome from eastviewco and didn't clear it, makes it look like silver, but i dont htink he used the new and improved powder that they offer either.....he is actually powdering samples for me to determine which chrome powder im going with to powder these parts:

IM, power steering bracket, ps resorvoir, battery holders, fuel rail, shaved vc, intake, polished turbo, ###### more but i cant remember.

I thought the JM Fab heatshields were polished? I wouldn't think a polished SS heatshield would turn yellow. Weird.

I'd be very interested in your thoughts and pictures if possible on the chrome samples you're doing. I'm leaning toward doing chrome powder for an extrudehone intake mani I have. It seems like the clear makes a big difference in some of the pictures I've seen.

yea im interested as well, my buddy is the one doing the powder coating, so as soon as he gets the powder and does it, i will psot pix along with pruchase numbers for the powders...yeah the jmf heatshield was polished....i just re-polished the thing, not to big of a deal...

i love powdercoat, after having my rims and vc and intake powdered it looks and lasts some much better then paint, and is not that much more expensive...i wanna powder everything chrome to make it resemble me polishing everything...it could be done, but id rather save my finger bones and have it powdered....

i might do my t-stat housing, strut bar, turbo radiator bracket and ic pipes if it comes out good enough as well as the stuff i mentioned above
