Long story short, Ive had no previous issues with my valve train, timing belt, timing issues, or my Cam position sensor. After the taking the car out for a quick tune last Friday I parked her for the night. The next evening I was getting ready to head out for a car meet and attempted to start her up. I was met with a VERY loud consistent ticking noise accompanied by a few sputters and then a stall. Attempted once more to make sure it wasn't a fluke. No luck. Ran got the laptop and found I had a P0340 code, camshaft sensor malfunction. Luckily my neighbor has an identical 98 GSX with the exact mods as myself. I swapped the CPSs and his sensor still caused the same issues. And my old sensor ran perfect in his car. I clears the code and attempted once more, still loud ticking, sputter then stall.

I have NOT checked timing yet, however I know for a fact before I turned the car off after the tuning session she idled for a few minutes perfectly. So I don't see how it could have jumped time, unless it jumped time at the exact moment I turned her over the next night.

I am under the impression that lets say the wiring or connector for the CPS is crapping out on me and the sensor did in fact fault or glitch for a second that its impossible to bend valves due to premature fuel or spark. If the mechanical timing is good can a misfire, premature detonation cause bent valves?

Any help or direction would awesome!

Thanks in advance

Any suggestions??
