overabundance of fuel out of return line

Ok so I had some issues with my car starting to the point where I had to pump the gas while cranking to get it to fire. I went and did a fuel pressure check and it came up 40 psi and slowly dropping with car not started and 40 psi held running. Didnt seem right to me. Pulled off the fuel return line and primed the pump and overabundantly sprayed fuel. My guess its the fpr. Ordered one and replaced it today and same issue with starting but now I only had to hold the pedal to the floor instead of pumping it. Did another fuel pressure test and same numbers. Since my fuel pump was under warranty I went and got another one and still the same issue. If I block off the return line it floods the car out. But when the cars running I pull the vac line off of the fpr and rpms jump another 300-400 rpms so I know it works. Only thing I have not checked yet is if the fuel pump relays fried to the constant on position but I can hear it prime and than shut off so I don't know. Also I have yet to check if I still have the over abundance amount of fuel coming out of the return line. So my question is would be why the hard start and why do I have to hold the pedal to the floor to start it? Also is the fp supposed to drop with key turned but not started?

Yes, fuel pressure will drop with key on, engine off.

40 psi for cranking is about right with vac line connected, fuel pressure should increase with engine running and vac line off.

From what you have said, sounds like the fuel system is fine.

I would say you need to check elsewhere for your hard start issues.

What makes no sense to me is that it won't start when ## cranking the crap out of it but as soon as you push the pedal to the floor it starts. What I also don't understand is when I'm driving the rpms stay at 2000 no matter what until I come to a complete stop than it drops to 900. Would you might think if I had a possible issue with my fuel pumps relay ground that that could be the issue?

Well On some cars, when you go to WOT for start up, it kills the injectors from spraying fuel. Or flooding the cyl.

I am not sure if a DSM is set up like that or not, But sounds like it.

You may want to hook up a noid light and check it durning cranking. Make sure they are not hanging open.

Check the coolant temp sensor, it sounds like the ECU thinks the engine is cold. It would account for the overly rich starts, and the higher than normal RPM while coasting.

Ok so I cleaned my map sensor since I don't have 70 $ for one and also my air temp sensor along with the throttle body. My high idle at coasting has stopped but still have an issue with a hard start. I'm getting about a volt and a half of drop between the battery and the pump. Is this bad? I also have continuity between the ground and the positive on my pump of about .9. Is this normal?I'm about ready to rewire my whole fuel pump along with the relay also because I'm getting 18.1 ohms on #87 and 17.1 ohms on 86 at the fuel pump relay. It doesn't seem right.

Come on guys. I could really use the help. I'm at a loss as to what to do.
