just yesterday i changed out my tranny and xfer case fluid for mobil1 gear oil. i honestly have to say i noticed a difference. not only does it shift smoother but at stops, getting into 1st and reverse is a bit smoother also. on cold cold starts in cold weather my gears shift alot easier than what they used to. usually on cold cold mornings until the car warms up the tranny shifts like shit. i def noticed it to be smoother on cold cold starts with mobil1 gear oil. just want anyone elses opinions who has/has used it in their dsm before :thumb:

I use the mobil 1 as well (forget the weight). Anyhow i seems to like it alot. On cold mornings it isn't as good as regular oil, but all and all it shifts well. This is also on a 180k tranny.

Guys, I am just curious what are you comparing to M1 tranny oil? I have tried it many years ago and it was TERRIBLE! Many others had the same disappointing results. I am sure that M1 offers great wear protection, but it is just not known for good shifting.

Unless… Mobil changed its composition and it now has friction modifiers, which help synchros.

Have you tried BG Sychroshift or MTL Redline or GM Synchromesh? Any of those should provide much better shifting.

I have to concur the success of BG Syncroshift II. Since I have been running that in my tranny not only have my shifts be smoother but I can shift off the rev-limiter. Though I try not to make that common practice. ;)

Mobile one is a gl-5 gear oil... it should not be used in our transmissions.

It says specifically not to use it in transmissions that are made for gl4.

I have Redline MTL-90 in my tranny right now...absolutely no difference then whatever was in it. I've been reading good reviews on the Pennzoil Syncromesh though, I want to try that once I can work on my car in the garage.
