Opinions on Evo 16G

A friend of mine is looking to upgrade from a T25. She's shooting for around 350awhp and considering an Evo 16G. She heard that SBR made 400awhp with one so she figures it should do 350 easily. I told her she's a retard and the turbo is too small. What do you guys think?

Evo 16G is a great turbo, it can do 350whp with good supporting mods... it would really depend if you want to go higher than 400whp in the future or not. If you wanted to fo 400-450+ in the future, yeah, it would probably be too small... it is a great proven turbo, I would recommend it for 350, they are reasonable in price and they are all over so fixing/replacing them in the future would be easily done.

***UPDATE*** T25 == weak/small (hairdryer), Evo 16G == powerful/small (great spool)

What turbo are you running? Do you have an Evo 16G? I told her to get a 50 trim. What do you think about that?

The Big16G is a great turbo for the 300-350 hp range. If she is content with that amount of horsepower. Then go with it.

If she wants room to expand in the future, then look into getting a bigger turbo, like a Garrett GT35, or Precisions 6152 (what I have)

See wants a minimum of support stuff (no meth, etc). What's required to make 350hp on an E3?

Well you cant buy a turbo and expect 350hp. You will need mods to support any turbo you pick to support the boost and so forth. You cant run 20 psi on the stock fuel system. Yes you can make 350hp on an evo 16g. If she is looking to go higher then obviously pick the bigger turbo.

Fuel System:
680cc injectors
190 or 255 lph pump
High Flow Fuel rail
New Fuel Pressure regulator.

3" Turbo back exhaust, CAI or short ram.
Evo3Big16g turbo
Tial 38mm external WG

Some type of tuning system:
DSMLink
MAF translator
MAF Translator PRO
AEM, Etc.

20psi sounds a bit much for the stock fuel system. I'm borderline with my FPB28 at 15psi (but at 7500ft elevation).

Obviously it needs supporting mods. She just doesn't want more then nessesary (meth isn't nessesary, cams aren't nessesary, etc). And yea, 20psi on an E3 is way too much for a stock fuel system.

This looks like a good list. How many people have done 350hp on this? I'm the one that's got to make it happen so I don't want a struggle.

Yes you caught my typo. I was trying to show that no matter what turbo they buy, there will be supporting mods needed. I was trying to show that fuel mods are a must.

Should, could, would, might... can you give me an example of someone that's done it with this stuff? I want my ass when I'm done and I don't get any if it doesn't make power.

donmagicjuan, a wiseman on these boards, has done it on a similar setup. Only differences are he's using ECU+ instead of DSMLink(ECU+ is comparable, but cheaper if you don't already have an eprom ECU), has a SSAC ebay FMIC(probably about $375 if you get in on the group buy), some FP2 cams(~$430), arp headstuds and has a water/meth injection system(a stage 1 kit can be had for ~$200). He is also using a 255lph and an AFPR, but the 190lph should provide enough fuel for almost 400whp and usually doesn't require an AFPR.

With my previous post, I basically just wanted you to know you didn't necessarlly need a AFPR, external WG or a new fuel rail. I have since amended my previous post.

So basically, it will do 350awhp with only a pump, injectors, exhaust, and something to tune with. Not bad. But I'll need cams, some sort of semi standalone (Link), head studs, meth injection, and probably much more to actually do 350awhp because no one has actually done 350awhp with only a pump, injectors, exhaust, and an AFC. Awsome. That answered my question perfectly, I'll tell her to get something bigger.

And if you don't want to go with DSM Link for whatever reason, a custom chip, logger, and afc work well too.

If I was looking for that hp number, I'd probably try a 255lph and a 50 trim myself instead of the 190 and E3. 'Cause I know I'd eventually want more and the lag difference wouldn't really bother me that much.

If you want to stay in the 300~350hp zone yeah the EVO 3 16G is a great cheap upgrade.
You need a minimum of 550cc injectors, SAFC, 190lph pump, upg. exhaust, a FMIC is always good to have, and don't forget a logger of some sort.
No need for fuel rails, cams, DSMLINK , afpr, etc if you just want 300-350hp!
