What is the lowest boost you can run the EVO III at on stock injectors? Whats safe with stock injectors? Roughly how much whp will you put out with these boost levels?

be careful if you run to lean you willl fry your spark plugs and god knows what else inside that engine, trust me ive been there. just do the proper supportin mods now rather then spend alll your money later on the havoc you wreak

Now I am certain this question has been answered thousands of times. I know because I searched for it 2 years ago when I debating on getting the evo3 16g.

Anyway I will answer your question.

The evo3 16g that I got seemed to not want to boost any less than 18psi. I had a manual boost controller and I just couldn't seem to get it to run anylower than that. Be sure that you order the turbo with the bigger wastegate (33mm I believe). You will see what I mean if you go to slowboyracing.com and read up about it. This larger wastegate flapper allows you to have a little better control over your boost levels.

With my experience with this turbo, I wouldn't try to run the car very hard until you have bigger injectors (550cc at the least), a higher flowing fuel pump, and a way to tune the car (apexi safc, dsmlink). With these fuel mods, you may be able to get away with running the evo3 16g safely at around 16psi. To go beyond that level, you will need a better flowing intercooler because the stock one just won't cut it anymore.

Like I said before, with my evo3 16g, I just cannot seem to get it to stay at a constant boost under 18psi. I tried to set it at 16psi, but it would just creep up to 18psi even after that wastegate flapper modification I was talking about earlier.

So think about all of these things before you decide on it and do more research. There is plenty of info already posted. Good luck.

The concepts are the same. A small 16g does not flow as much as an evo3 16g. However, a small 16g flows more than a stock turbo (t25 or 14b) so that means more fuel is still necessary as well as the ability to create a cooler intake charge (larger intercooler). Now to the degree of how much more fuel is needed is discovered in the art of tuning.

Stock injectors can handle 272HP and 231WHP at 80% Injector Duty Cycle. 340HP and 289WHP at 100% Injector Duty Cycle.

Max. Boost on 450cc and EVOIII 16G would be 15PSI. If you do more than that (~18PSI) your going to kill the pistons.

Boosting around 18PSI on 450cc's will cause fuel cut which is hard on the tranny and pistons.

Thats odd, when I logged my car on my 14B, I boosted 15 psi and logged in 94% duty cycle. That means 15 psi on an EVOIII would be over 100% duty cycle. Your fuel injectors will be stuck open trying to keep up. I recommend 12 psi max, after that, your just doing harm. Expect to gain about 35HP at the same boost level.

You really can't give exact numbers like that. It just doesn't work that way. The only real way is to tune the set up. The best way to go when upgrading is to go ahead and buy the biggest injectors (within reason) that your fuel tuning device can handle and tune.

450cc Injectors will MAX out at 272HP/231WHP on a 4 cylinder engine at 80% Duty Cycle. 450cc Injectors will MAX out at 340HP/289WHP on a 4 cylinder engine at 100% Duty Cycle.

You cannot get any more fuel out of a 450cc injector to produce/support any more power.

Randy

If you port it for creep, tap the boost controller from the j-pipe, and have a fatty front mount, then you can hold 7psi on an Evo III 16g all day...even with a full 3 inch exhaust like me.

I definately agree with you that the 450cc injectors are limited and are maxed out quickly. I am, however, saying that you cannot just spit out numbers like this. I have seen that horsepower to injector duty cycle calculator. I do not trust things like that and I don't think anyone else should either. Like I said, tuning is the best way to find out. Having experience in tuning can tell you where about injectors start to fail, but you cannot know it exactly for every car.
