Ok guys im a newbie to the DSM world and the turbo world all together so i just got a couple of quick questions.
What do u think is the best most cost effective boost gauge i know a lot of ppl recommend Autometer but what else is out there and also What BOV do u like the most and causes the least amount of problems because i was looking to get the Greddy Type S and final question is which catback exhaust has the deepest tone my boy has the Apexi N1 on his 240sx and i love the sound of it and was thinking about it for my own car and just wanted to know what you guys think.

Sorry if im asking the same questions someone else has asked a million times but give me a break im a newbie to this whole thing and want to make sure i do everything right. Thanks for any info :laser: :thumb:

also what is the best ram air intake and the best/most accurate Manual Boost Controller
and if anyone has the Apexi Turbo Timer how hard was the install?

for the most cost effective boost gauge, they all pretty much do the same thing. It depends on what looks you want it to have . I tun the autometer gauges, just make sure you get one with a vacuum reading as well.

for the BOV, greddy Type S is a great BOV, as is the new RS.

For a catback the N1 sounds REALLY nice. I have it and I liike it. It sounds completely different once you ad the N1 downpipe though. Many people like the Thermal Research and Development Exhaust. It's the quietest. The N1 is LOUD, unless you plug in the silencer.

what do u mean "with a vacuum reading also" for the boost gauge? whats the difference between one with or one without? and does anyone know of any links for sound clips of exhausts cuz i really like the N1 but if its really loud i dont want it cuz with my driving record i dont need the attention the quieter the better but yet i still want a 3" exhaust

Your car doesnt always run boost, and while it doesnt run boost it is in vacum. On a 2g it is around 19vac. Not too sure about 1g. But as long as you have a boost gauge that shows vacum too you will know whats going on with the vacum too.

^^^ to my man above, vaccum readings are going to vary for every car.

That's about all it does. The N1 catbacks are NOT a full 3 inch, they pinch down to 2 1/2 at parts I've been told.

If you want a mean sounding exhaust, Buschur's 3" turbobacks sound pretty gnarly and really deep. 3 inch all the way through.

Boost gauge, stick to MECHANICAL boost gauges because they are more accurate in my experiences. Autometer Cobalt series look pretty good and are priced very low.

Dejon Tool makes the cheapest and best bang for your buck hardpipe intakes. Also, just buy a REAL K&N filter, don't buy the Apex'i one because it's smaller. The K&N FIPK's flow the best in my opinon.

As far as a BOV, the stock 1g BOV is good up to 18psi. So I wouldn't reccomend changing it unless you plan on running insane amounts of boost on a bigger turbo.

Boost controllers, I'm partial to EBC's myself, but I'd have to say the Hallman MBC's are very well made and function very well.

Turbo timers are stupid easy to install granted you have the 1g install harness. It just unplugs from the stock ignition, and the harness goes inbetween the stock ignition switch.

Hit me up on AIM if you have anymore questions, I can usually answer most newbie questions :)

I've got the full turbo-back N1 2/5"->3" exhaust and while it's loud...it's not 'loud' in a bad way-if that makes any sense. The car, with everything else on it, sounds great-but it's not a ricer kind of sound, more like a growl really. It resonates a little around 3K RPM but it's liveable, and really until you get on her it's not bad-and at that point you really don't care anyway.
As far as turbo timers go, the advice about the harness is well taken. Installing one without it isn't exactly rocket science but installing it with one is absurdly easy. I don't know that the APEXi one is compatible with the HKS harnesses, but I can't imagine there is a lot of difference in the necessary connections-on that note, I'm happy with my HKS type O.

hey buddy if you are trying to save money I would just get the autometer boost gauge and get a 1gen bov modified by dejon tool for like $60 it will hold up to like 60psi and exhaust there are alot out there but my whole car club and myself have the RnR and it sounds real good and it is at a good price

I have the n1 and it sounds soooo nasty. has a good deep tone. As for BOV's, you can get a Greddy Type S for really really cheap now. I bought mine like 2 years ago and its was kind of expensive, just search the forums and ebay (thank god for ebay!!!!!!)

As some other's said, get a downpipe, not only will your exhaust sound better, you can bring your boost up a pound or 2 and you will get a better response than a exhaust system on a stock downpipe.

KN intake is the way to go

Full 3 inch exhaust + Gredy BOV + Boostcontroller + KN = good times
