Is this a turbo piston, or a NT Piston?

The top shelf is appx 1/4 inch.. Don't have my calipers here, so I am not 100% sure, but its pretty damned close, using a tape measure.

Check the 4 notches on top of the piston. If they are all the same size, you got turbo pistons. If 2 are the same size and 2 are smaller, you got n/t pistons.

Actually, I think I found the answer in some unrelated posts, thanks to a cleverly crafted search query.

After cleaning off the top of the pistons, so that I could see if there were any identification marks, there's an arrow (Which means they are stock, correct?) and a 63D, Which, from what I have read in other posts, means that they are Stock NT Pistons.. ;-/

Oh well.. I guess i'll have to buy some turbo pistons then.

The whole Weisco / JE Argument has me concerned, however.. Seems that there's no general consensus on which of the two are the better piston.

Any suggestions in that department, without breaking the bank?

Thanks.

Dave

From what I read in other posts, the Turbo Pistons have 63DT on the top, whereas the NT Pistons only have 63D.

Mine only have the 63D, hence, they are NT Pistons.

Hopefully between Polk and SBR, I can get everything I need.

Can anyone confirm (and point to a source) that the 63D pistons are NA while the 63DT are for turbo motors? I ask because the short block I bought last week has (IIRC) 63D pistons. In any case, I'll be home tomorrow night and will check both my original block plus the one I bought.

He's right. The turbo pistons have 63DT and N/T pistons just say 63D.

Hmm, that's interesting. If that's the case then I need to drop the pan when I get home to confirm whether the block is a turbo or NA block. I plan to look for the oil squirters...unless there is a way to tell definitively from the outside. Probably no real matter, though, since I don't race the car. :|

Not that anybody else really cares, but the pistons in my new 6-bolt do have a large T after the 63D... :thumb:

Full boost ahead! :D

My pistons have 63DK on them. What does this mean? I know they are N/T(the valve grooves are 2 different sizes, but what does the K mean. I am in the process of determining whether ort not to do a total rebuild or not.
