I'm trying to remove my castle nut on the oil pump cover and cannot figure out how to remove it. How can I take the nut off with the cover on the car.

On my engine I had to heat the thing up to get it to move and it took a lot of a beating. Hopefully it goes well for you.

Pick up a socket for it from Harbor Freight. As mentioned, it's not the easiest to remove.

Just out of curiosity, why are you removing it. Is the 0-ring leaking? Otherwise, can't think of any reason to remove it.

This is on my buddy's 2g and yes the oil pump drive gear is off and were removing it due to an o-ring leak. I think were gonna try some heat, what is this special socket you speak of.

The service manual suggests that hitting the plug head with a hammer two to three times if it is too tight will make it much easier to remove; just don't slam down on it and break it.

A "spindle nut socket" is about as close as I can find, picture-wise, to the special tool used by Mitsubishi to remove the plug.

Good luck!

Im trying to get mine off now as the case if off the car. No amount of hammering has helped and im worried im going to destroy the case.

Is there a place to get the tool for removal? Id gladly pay for it at this point

I always just remove the back cover of the pump. I never got why people fight with that castle nut.
Mines off... i just want to replace the oring before i put motor back together. I guess i could jb weld it permanently shut.. i just prefer to do it right
